Matt Stephens Cannondale Topstone Carbon Ultegra Disc RX Gravel Road Bike First Ride | Sigma Sports

One of the most versatile bikes in Cannondale's range the Topstone offers all the ride enhancing features to eat up the tarmac but also the compliance to head off the beaten track and take on some rougher terrain. Matt headed out to Belgium to put the Carbon Ultegra Disc RX model through its paces. With cobbles on the menu features such as the Kingpin suspension system and the 37c WTB Riddler TCS Light Tubeless Tyres really came into their own.

Please note: This first ride was filmed prior to the COVID-19 outbreak. We are taking the situation incredibly seriously and would not condone traveling during the current situation.

Appealing bike, even better presentation, even better presenter....
But can someone tell Matt that he still has his PJs on!

Matt : “this is actually the first Gravel bike I’ve ever ridden” ... but didn’t Matt go on an “epic gravel ride” with Si & Dan back in the GCN days ? Not that I watch way too many cycling vids or anything! Teasing aside, great content, thanks Matt.

Hey all those years I thought I was just a GCN fan but Matt you sir are a cool dude & a gentleman. Thanks to the fans for reminding us about the gravel ride too lol. Keep enjoying what you do for a living!

matts voice is perfect for cycling videos . i think this is the way road biking will go. mix of practicality and top end speed especially in the UK where many roads are full of potholes.

This video really made me decided to go with cannondale topstone carbon amongst others as a do it all bike.

Never thought I’d ride a gravel bike. However, Matt has convinced me to give it a go. Nice job, Matt!

I'm not rich enough for carbon, but I do have a Topstone 105 alloy. Cannondale has done a great job designing their Topstone line, but an even better job marketing it. Every time I see a video about a Topstone, I feel like I have the best bike in the world. Every time I ride my Topstone, I feel lucky to have one.

I've been looking at, reading about gravel bikes for a few weeks now. This week I've been watching and listening to Youtube vids on the Topstone Lefty. They've all heaped praise on the Topstone. I love my Cannondale Lefty 29er so I'm not surprised and the Topstone Lefty especially does look great.I trust and respect Matt's judgement. I just wish they were priced similar to Giant's Revolt Advanced 3 as I'm going to struggle convincing my wife I should have one.

It’s Matt!!! 😁 This is the review I’ve been searching for! I’ve been riding a Synapse for years and wondering if this would be as great. Thanks for that little note about the similarities in geometry. I think I’ve made my choice: one Topstone, two wheelsets. 👍🏾

About to experience a gravel carbon cycle from a road carbon; thanks Matt for the supporting facts.

I have Carbon 105. Owned for 3.5 months. Done about 1500 km. Negatives. The bike has been back to the LBS shop twice in that period. WTB rims are ok but the Formula freehub failed after 2 months riding. Got a new wheel. Heavy though!! BB30 creaks intermittently and there was visible scratches on the crank when the LBS tried to fix the loud knocking. Related ? Headset bearings will need changing soon. Good points. Smooth ride. Go all day and still keep up with chain gang on slicks (pre corona of course). ShimanoI 105 perfect as usual. Do not worry about offset dishing, I know a wheel change is unclear than a tire change but this bike can be an awesome all rounder. I got a new rear wheel from my LBS.

I’d stick with Specialized Diverge. Matt did not mention the offset spoke arrangement which makes wheel interchangeability a nightmare

Another great review from the legend that is Matt Stevens. He is one of the best cycling pundits out there. Bit of clothing fail though....

My only reluctance to that bike is the offset of the rear wheel. It is unique. If I wanted a 2nd set of wheels, I'd have to have them built. I couldn't just but a set off the shelf. Granted, it most likely isn't that big of a deal, I just get a little nervous with a proprietary part like wheels.
