I love the part where in the first fime, Robert E Lee asks about grant. And Longstreet says he fought for you in Mexico and Lee said, "he did"?

Notice how 3 people important to the Union’s success - Lincoln, Sherman, and Grant - were shopkeeps at one moment of their lives, had mental breakdowns or close family crisis, and rose through the ranks on merit alone; where as most of the south officers and generals were of southern high class with ties to the slave trade of which most of their wealth was dependent.

Don’t get me wrong, those southern officers knew how to fight a war in the Mexican war; it was that mindset which aided them in the first months of the civil war — however they heavily underestimated Sherman and Grant abilities
