IIT prof's tips: Watch this before starting 10+2

The science level in 10+2 is significantly higher than the science in 10th. Many students are surprised and often overwhelmed by this abrupt rise in level. In this video, I spell out some of the challenges and also discuss some pointers to overcome these challenges.

To be honest, I think the jump from 10 to 11-12 is seeing things more rigorously and taking many more things into account than we previously did in 9-10. More dimensions, a more rigorous study of systems and bodies, etc. This rigor pushes many students back and makes them reconsider their choices in life.

Teaching my sibling and observing their progress, , I’ve noticed that students exposed to RMO, NSEP, and Olympiads during their 9th and 10th grades tend to have a stronger grasp of concepts to face the challenges in class 11- 12 more confidently

The problem is with the school education policy. It has been such that upto 10, it stays at a level which is based on rote learning and then it suddenly in +2, it requires you to understand more . That shift is confusing and difficult.

The first point actually hits home. I remember being a straight A student up until class 10th and I was in complete denial and genuinely thought I was just tired. But later on, i couldn't really catch up with my batchmates

Thank you for the pointers. We look forward to subject specific guidance as you have mentioned in the video. Apart from that can you please make a presentation wherein you can map how concepts are interrelated among Maths, Physics and Chemistry? This will give a good idea to the students on how to proceed and they can plan in advance how to study. E.g. having an idea of calculus will be required in mechanics. So on so forth. Looking forward to a pictorial representation of the connections between various topics and the hierarchy.
