Don't listen to the people who says "You cant do an open world as a solo dev". Echoes of Argora has been in the making for 8 months and I'm the sole developer on the project. Everything is possible if you set your mind to it. This is what differs "Us" from "Them", we can actually achieve this! Best of luck to you my fellow solo dev!

Go for it! Coming from a music production background, it took years to produce anything of quality and I'm still learning. I think game development is on a precipice of becoming easier for non coders to make a game. And with the advent of ai to help express ideas plugins for UE will become more wild. Also your mic is kak boet.... that accent sound familiar..

you should make a video about what your vision is and create a game design doc..
I really miss the original RPGs like the Ultima series.

Okay so I decided to take some time to write you some things I’ve learned from my own game dev experience.

Don’t believe anyone who says you can’t do it by yourself, you can! It’s only up to you and how much time, effort and wisdom you’ll invest in this project. You must be careful and filter criticism from people who never built anything, be mindful to consider the ones who really care about your project being successful and which ones are just propagating things they heard over the internet, and even for the ones who care about your project, you must learn to filter individual opinions that goes against your vision and what your community wants from your game (yes, a community will exist and increase over time).

It will take you lots of time, lots of learning, you’ll have lots of frustration but lots of great moments of celebration as well. What makes game development an incredible thing is not the end result but the development process itself, the end result is the outcome of everything mentioned so far, enjoy the process!

I clearly see you enjoy the process, but sometimes when life just gets hectic or you’re just exhausted, your passion about your project will be the only thing that keeps you from quitting and giving up on your project, remember to save this comment and re-read it at these moments.

Remember to balance things out, create a solid routine around your game development moments, and remember to take a break sometimes, this will help you to understand and overcome the frustrations and will keep you more energized to keep moving with your project.

Don’t make the mistake of not using community assets, it’s only an asset flip if you just throw it into your game without caring about the quality and if it fits your game. It’s totally fine to purchase a pack from an artist and add your unique touch to it, lots of AAA studios do this and you probably don’t even know because the artists did their own magic to these assets before bringing them to the game. This is a special tip, and it’s a crucial factor that will help you save a ton of time to focus on the things that really matter.

Lastly but not least, subscribe to Tim Cain’s (creator of Fallout) YouTube channel if you’re not yet subscribed, and learn from experienced game developer perspective (and avoid watching too much game dev content that won’t add anything to your experience, there’s lots of opinions on game dev on YouTube that might significantly slow you down and deviate your focus. Spend your time with quality things that will aggregate to your project).

I am subscribing to your channel and I will keep an eye on your videos.

Cheers,

Leo

Great start! The door is really cool! I need to catch-up to your latest video. Have you read Slay the Dragon: Writing Great Video Games by Robert Denton Bryant? It's requires reading for anyone to create your own open world RPG.

Can you do it? Surely. Will it be good enough to not be just one more? Time will tell.
