President Cyril Ramaphosa calls on African leaders to root out causes of conflict

President Cyril Ramaphosa has called on African leaders to redouble their efforts and act in unity to overcome the root causes of conflict on the continent. Ramaphosa was speaking in his capacity as the AU Chairperson at the closing ceremony of the AU 14th Extraordinary virtual Session on the theme "Silencing the guns". He says violence and conflict have posed a great threat to Africans, especially to women and young people. He says African countries need to work as a collective to build lasting peace in the continent: We are joined now via Skype from Ethiopia by Researcher from the Institute for Ssecurity Studies, Mohamed Diatta.
