Like that's going to do anything it will just push people away

It is just plain stupid to expect reasonable people to want to gather in one place during an active pandemic. I seriously doubt raising the prices will recoup any of the losses from the last two years.

Why raise admission when the state fair charges the vendors $1000 or more

The entrance should be free. The inside should be exciting and fun, making me want to spend more money. I won't be paying to enter. Good luck.

will they lower the cost for admission if they make enough money this year in sales

RAISING the gate price will NOT get more people to come, only less. So, revenue will DECREASE.
If they want more people to come, they may want to consider LOWERING the gate price.

With such loses on the books, they must have too many expenses year-round that need to be trimmed -- starting with the salary of the fair director and his minions. Also, the fairgrounds need to find more sources of revenue year-round. But, those events won't happen if they try to over-charge to rent buildings and event spaces. There should be events, large and small, scheduled for nearly every week or weekend. So many organizations and even businesses and business associations would love to be able to afford renting buildings and event spaces to hold events, but not if the rental rates are ridiculously high.

The state fair was going great for years until the metal detectors, bag searches, overpriced parking, reduced park and ride locations, overpriced food, Miscreants and Malcontents fighting and shooting. Not worth it anymore. 🍗

I've been to the fair after 11 p.m. on the weekends. The place is still packed. Often times the concerts nudge right up until the 11 p.m. hour before dismissing. I think the fair's gonna have a hard time emptying the place out that quickly on weekends. And the traffic bottlenecks will be massive.
