"Elon Musk has deleted his tweet promoting Tucker Carlson’s interview with a self-proclaimed historian who tried whitewashing the Holocaust.

Carlson on Monday published a new episode of The Tucker Carlson Show with podcaster Darryl Cooper. During their lengthy conversation, Cooper called Winston Churchill the “chief villain” of World War II and claimed the millions killed during the Holocaust were an unintended result of Germany taking in prisoners of war without being prepared to do so."

The historian seems to be talking about Operation Barbarossa specifically, not the Holocaust generally. He specifically mentions “Barbarossa, ” “Eastern front” invasion of 1941, and the unexpected war of attrition during the winter of that operation. It’s sad that “cancel culture” is such that we can clip a segment and mass cancel conversation. Not saying I agree with him, just that people are misattributing this viral clip.

This is odd because I know Daryl from his first podcast series about the history of the Israel-Palestine conflict and while it's open to being criticized for it's historical accuracy (and has been) I found it to be very empathetic to both sides. It's like 22h long and at no point did I, even for a second, get the impression that he is an antisemite. In fact I refuse to believe it. He never downplayed the impact of the Holocaust in that series or anything like that. I used to subscribe to his substack but stopped because I didn't like his take on the Ukraine war so maybe he's just slowly gone crazy like many people seem to have over the last few years, I don't know. I can't stand Tucker Carlson so I'm dreading the thought of having to listen to a 2h long podcast of his but I feel like I have to because everyone is talking about this and their takes are all in direct conflict with what I thought was true. TYT has a bit of a history of this (they slandered Sam Harris many years ago, which is when I stopped taking them seriously) so maybe it's history repeating itself here. After all they literally did just show a clip of him saying that the Nazis were not the good guys and yet immediately acted like he was saying the opposite. It often feels like nobody is capable of nuance these days.

EDIT: Just watched the whole interview. Yep, it was what I thought. This is 100% a bullshit story. The two clips shown (including the one where he specifically says that he is NOT saying that the the Nazis are the good guys) are the most "controversial" part of the whole thing. He's not a fascist, he's not denying the holocaust. He's just being empathetic towards the Nazis and trying to understand the war from their perspective. You can dislike that approach, bury your head in the sand and pretend that the Germans of the 30's and 40's were all psychopathic evil robots or something, if that helps you sleep at night, I guess, but that doesn't make him a fascist or holocaust denier. And you can criticize him for being historically inaccurate but I don't see how that would trigger the level of emotion that we see from Cenk and Anna here. This is pathetic. It's clearly just one of those *someone said he was a fascist and I watched a 30 sec clip so I guess that's the truth, let's run with it* stories. What a joke. He literally follows up the statement about the Nazis being unprepared for all those millions of POW's by saying whatever the reason was, they were still morally culpable for their deaths. At no point did he even come close to excusing or defending them. The only objection to his point is on historical grounds for being inaccurate, but that would require any of these people actually knowing what the fuck they're talking about. But if you can't count on them to watch a 2h long podcast to get the proper context for something then how can you expect them to know history? Shame on all you liars.

I remember an Iranian President being asked by an American journalist if he was a Holocaust denier. His reply was, "75 million people died in WW2. Why are deaths of 6 million Jews treated as special?"
The same question can be asked today. When so many Palestinians are slaughtered before our eyes, by the thousands, why are the deaths of 6 Israeli hostages being treated as if the incident symbolizes the barbarity of the Palestinian people.
