The banjo is a stringed instrument with a thin membrane stretched over a frame or cavity to form a resonator. The membrane is typically circular, in modern forms usually made of plastic, originally of animal skin. Early forms of the instrument were fashioned by African Americans and had African antecedents.[1][2] In the 19th century, interest in the instrument was spread across the United States and United Kingdom by traveling shows of the 19th century minstrel show fad, followed by mass-production and mail-order sales, including instruction method books. The inexpensive or home-made banjo remained part of rural folk culture, but 5-string and 4-string banjos also became popular for home parlor music entertainment, college music clubs, and early 20th century jazz bands. By the early 21st century, the banjo was most frequently associated with folk, bluegrass and country music, but was also used in some rock, pop and even hip-hop music.[3] Among rock bands, the Eagles, Led Zeppelin, and the Grateful Dead have used the five-string banjo in some of their songs. Some famous pickers of the banjo are Ralph Stanley and Earl Scruggs.

I am in bed, rain falling, thinking of my best friend who just passed away. He loved his banjo.
It's breaking my heart and I love it.

Man I had a log cabin up in the applachians and I sold a few years ago to move back up north. Glad I did or else Milton probably would have caused me some hard times, but I grew up in the south and have always had a soft spot for banjo and folk music

When I was camped out in the hills of the gorge near Kentucky as a teenager. I heard in the early morning hours, a man in the near by camp site singing old folk music whiste plucking at a banjo. He was singing creation into being with his connection strong Rollin the soul with his ebony ways, bones, breath wailing fires.
I had been touched transformed somehow.
I'll never forget that night as he carried me through with the lullaby of the mountains.

I don't think I've ever heard slow banjo before - it seems it's always played as fast as possible - this is so nice...

I close my eyes and I am back home in the hills having a cup of coffee letting the forest wake up and happy for simpler times. Listening to the cords echo through the holler.

Classic picture. Classic face Classic banjo. I had several candles. Had no idea what each was. Wrapped in selafane. Unwrapped one put it in the window. Lit it. Piece of tape was on the kichen floor. On it was written "Rain" just after I turned this on. Guess me and the ol banjo player had a special meeting tonight. Liften my spirit, which, honestly, was kind of low today. Thank you Ol Banjo man. I enjoyed very very much Such wonderful, wonderful company you are

Love to the mountains, love to swamps, love to desert, love to the sky’s, love to seas, love to woods, love to tundra, love to the prairie, ode to live them. Genuine, grateful, laughter, hurt, cry, and death. But live to tell my tale… now you try it

no need to scream your pain in a gravely voice when a soft melodic series of hummed whimpers to a sad banjo gets the point across just as well, if not better.

Banjo is perfect blend of African and Scotch Irish Culture. Celtic soul music on African hardware.

Wish those cultures would have united from the jump. We'd be unstoppable. But the powers that be have never wanted that.
