What Everyone Misses in Cosmic Rewind #disney #epcot #disneyparks #disneyshorts

THIS is why the giant Star Blaster is so prominently displayed out front, and why it makes sense in the broader context of Epcot and Walt Disney’s legacy 🙌

If we go back to EPCOT’s roots as progress city (Walt’s original plan before he passed), he was all about forward-thinking and optimism for the future, like the fair was in many ways (like the Carousel of Progress). The Star Blaster closely resembles aircraft on display at the fair, in almost the same manner. In this way, the Imagineers were able to honor the importance of the technology developed at the fair that revolutionized the way Disney made theme parks, as well as keeping Epcot relevant to the next generation.

I think the Imagineers did a brillant job honoring the legacy of the 1964 New York World’s Fair (as well as the Universe of Energy) throughout the queue. The attraction may not be what the park was about in 1982, but the spirit of hope and optimism, Walt’s cameo, the world’s fair-inspired presentation of information, and the motto “Peace Through Understanding” makes this queue a Disney history gem for me 🥰

In case you’re wondering, this information came from a fantastic panel about the World’s Fair that I had the privilege to attend at D23, plus some extra digging of my own to uncover a few additional connections 🌐

That's cool that they got those touches in there. Many people seem to think that era is over and it's all about slapping an IP onto a location. Nice to know the Imagineers still know their history and pay deference.

I love how they still think of him and do everything they can to incorporate the original magic of Disney in every ride

Ever since i saw the concept art for cosmic rewind featuring that yellow ship in the front, i just knew it had to be a reference to the original 1963-64 worlds fairs ship because i have that same photo in a book somewhere and i compared the two immediately. I’m glad to have this verified now as it was indeed intentional.

To me, I believe Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic rewind would of been a suitable replacement for Mission space.

I wish you could include a video on The Universe of Energy and Body Wars. Like maybe a video about Epcot and WDW in the late 1980's-1990's. That would be so awesome.

Oh, how I miss the Universe Of Energy. I haven't been to Epcot or WDW since the late 90's. Does anyone know if the Universe of Energy ride is still there? Or, was it made into a different ride? That ride always made me think of my childhood. That, Spaceship Earth, that old ride in the Norway part of Epcot, and the Body Wars rides were always my favorites. I know the last 2 are gone, but I wasn't sure if the first two I listed are?

I think it’s so interesting that people complain about this because you would think the type of people who have a problem with it being at Epcot would be the ones to understand how perfectly it fits it. It’s just another pavilion.

Yeah it's still out of place no matter how much they try and explain it LOL. This basically applies to all of their new rides.
