You notice how at 0:28 and the other time she opened the mirror she takes a weird sort of step? Like a bigger step.. and she looks down? It's because they're on a green screen. She stepped over either a step/stair or some wires. ^_^

Facing two mirrors creates an infinite amount of reflections acutally a common misconception, there's a finite number of light particles, and atoms on the mirrors. Light particles lose a little bit of energy each time they bounce and ultimately get's slowly absorbed into the mirrors.

Little do people know that this scene (as well as the whole movie) was heavily inspired by Satoshi Kon's Movie "Paprika"! Give it a watch, its an amazing film

I think that basically she's just proving her capabilities of building an impossible world and I also think that they were showing the impossibilities of dreaming.

@samwestonc Second scene with infinite mirrors is slightly difficult, but technology is the same: green screen in front of the camera (right after girl). Also I'd put X marks on mirror this time, so we could track mirror itself. And after camera tracking we will have mirrored scene in 3d, where we could replace reflected camera with road. And of course, reflected actors are masked out. Really, I don't see a big problem with filming this scene, but in Inception it's filmed great.

I was watching the intro to last tango in Paris and the very first scene is filmed in the exactly same location

@samwestonc - they film from the opposite angle of the mirror and them composite the two shots together. It's all in the editing. ;)

Maybe the camera was covered in green and they edited it out?

I know, they"retouch"the camera-crews out of the shot. You can see it at 0:32 Ariadne's left foot is step on the white line, BUT look carefully in the 3rd leyer of reflection, her lef foot did NOT event step on the line yet (for more detail-on HD), because CGI people has to remove the camera reflection, replace Ariadne's reflection back(because that's where camera at), there for it's not lined up like real action. And yet they have to remove it in every reflections, I know because I did that before.

@samwestonc I don't know, how did they film it, but I can tell how will I film such scene. :) First of all, I'd set up two big mirrors in certain places, right where they appear in scenes. As for first scene with mirror: I'd set up a huge green screen behind the camera and behind columns. I'd put X marks on green screen for future camera tracking. As all of you know, in modern filmmaking it is possible to replace any object on screen with help of camera tracking... to be continued

At 0:27 you can see her stepping over something like a frame or a wire or something.

At 0:28 notice her footing, she steps over cables that are invisible to the viewer so she doesn't trip, since this is all CGI.

Assuming the crew didn't have access to light-bending super-heated copper, I would imagine they used a green-screen on the "mirror, " so it's not really a mirror; just a computer-generated reflection. They just cut the camera out.

i think know the trick: the lines! You know look at 0:25 you can see 3 vertical lines in the mirror, so they have covered the part with the camera reflection with a picture of the back and the line can hide the trick

@samwestonc you know, the same way they used to make the city turn on its head. Magic

@samwestonc So I'd make camera track only for mirror area and replaced green screen with certain picture. As for actors, is it not such a big problem to mask them out - just a few days of work. So we will have a shot, composed of (rough) few layers: camera tracked and rendered background+actors+real shot.... to be continued

Wouldnt it be easier to make the mirrors two way so that the camera can be behind the mirrors and not be visible at all?
