Sculpting Legendary Dragons from Germanic Mythology | Lindwurm VS Gluhschwanz

World of Warships is a free to play online naval warfare game. It's a fun, satisfying multiplayer strategy game with gorgeous and diverse warships, beautiful maps and an absolutely stunning soundtrack for you to get lost in while drifting through the seas.

To celebrate their latest event Battle of Monsters and to reward the community, we decided to team up to create two legendary dragons from Germanic mythology, Lindwurm and Glühschwanz.

Lindwurm is represented in Germanic mythology as a fierce dragon with the body of a snake who predominately lives on water. Glühschwanz is a light agile dragon with a flaming tail who came at night to terrorize the bad people of the village. His name translates in english as Glowtail.
Very little is known about the appearence of these creatures as they are based on mythical folklore and they don't have a certain visual representation, so I got to make up the designs for each one as I was sculpting them. I sculpted these dragons using a mix of polymer clay between Super Sculpey and Cosclay.
This was one of my favorite projects so far. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did.

How to participate in the giveaway:
1. Register a new World of Warships account through the link in the description of the video
2. Play at least one battle in a tier VI+ ship before the end of day September 30th.

Prize:
One of the two dragon models created in this video will be raffled among all participants by the World of Warships team.
Winners will be contacted by the World of Warships team via the email linked to their game account on registration by September 8th.
If a winner does not respond within 1 week, a new winner will be chosen.

Thanks for participating and good luck!

I just did some research on the Gluhschwanz: It says that the dragon would make sure that witches would feed it sweet milk, while it would pay them either money or grain, it would set their chimney on fire if they did not meet his correct amount of sweet cow milk! It is also quite wholesome; it makes sure that the employers of farmers or the employers did not do their labours and stole eggs and corn, it would set their roofs on fire!

Those dragons are becoming alive at night when no one is watching. 🐉

I don't know how to describe how epic that was so I'll just say that I've been frozen in front of my screen with my jaw on the floor for 15 minutes straight. This is truly a masterpiece

I love how you chose to portray these dragons.
Often times you see them shown as noble creatures.
In german folklore however they are usually wretched and vile monsters who spite God like the snake from which they descended.

You captured that perfectly in your sculpting and the Glühschwanz in particular looked astonishing.

How you manage to get it so detailed, without messing up what's already done, is truly impressive!

The amount of detail is truly mind boggling. The scales, the wings, the faces. Just everything is so incredible. 🤯

Dragons are probably my most favorite thing, I collect them you see. Started back when I was just a kid & now my whole house is decorated in them! Lol but, "WOWZER!" You have a pretty epic and gnarly skill that makes me wish I had some of your art for my own collection because this good sir is absolutely stunning!

As someone who would carve each individual little brink into her miniature castle walls, I fully appreciate the time you took to do the body scales 🥰

Me a Monster Hunter fan.
“I’m going to make that dragon into a hat!”

But jokes aside, these are awesome sculptures. Have a like 😊

This man's ability to so seamlessly smooth his clay is something I deeply envy.

I just told my wife I fell in love with someone else. She said "what!?" Then came over to watch, and agreed. Unreal skills and made me want to go out and buy some sculpting stuff so I can get my journey started. Thank you so much for the inspiration

I love how the Gluhschwanz seems to be knuckle walking, very unique take on the classic dragon.

Как же круто выполнены все эти нюансы. Разные ребристые поверхности, в итоге вышло очень красиво. Все так гибко, динамично.
