That Chrysler SSR was a prime example of wondering why no one at any point during the design and creation of that car, no one thought “this is a really stupid idea and we shouldn’t do this.”

To be fair, the 1989 Dodge Dakota came as a soft top convertible. Why? Idk but it did. The SSR was designed by the same guy who designed the PT cruiser, it was supposed to be a call back to the old hotrods same as the Plymouth prowler, the SSR was supposed to look like the 50s chevy pickup, while the SSR wasn't a good car, at all, it was really important in relearning some old forgotten manufacturing techniques which helped out later in aluminum body panels.

hammond even calls it "no nobody did" [drive the ssr]
it was figured it was gonna be this super collectable truck and it *isn't* but the 50 year old retirees that GM sold this too aren't giving up their misguided hope
