I always loved that in the midst of a tournament, Williams and Roper are running a hustle, yet both are excellent fighters. Gambling's in Roper's blood, and Williams just naturally drops into it because they're buddies. A nice little sub-plot that didn't need to be there, but stresses their friendship for what's to come.

Such a minor character, but I would have enjoyed seeing Parsons at the end helping Lee & Roper against all the guards. It would have been a fine way to conclude his story, by ending his arrogant ways and becoming more humble.

As a kid I thought Williams was showing his disapproval of Roper not being able to hold his own in a martial arts tournament and that it was just a freeway ticket to get away from debt collectors so Roper gives a cheap shot to save himself from any further punishments. I now realize that they were gambling on each other and Roper was being incompetent on purpose to raise the bet and waited for Williams to give him the go ahead and finish the fight quickly. Roper’s nut kicking skills were legendary in this cause he manage to kill a guy (Bolo) in his next fight.
