Is religious education in school important?

A new study has found that many academy schools do not offer religious education, with the Father of the House of Commons stating this leaves a “gaping hole” in the school curriculum.

While the number of students taking religious studies GCSE has risen by nearly a third over the last decade, no Government money has been spent on the subject over the last five years.

I’m not a church goer but I understand all our foundations and social cohesion is built on its foundations

We are not having morning assembly now 😤 now Guess why it was stopped because of complaints by Muslim’s 🤔 strange yet again what is it in a Christian Country we ponder to Islam, If we are going to teach religion in school’s let teach how Christianity started and how Islam was founded by a war munger 🤔

Personally no I think the parents should teach faith and it should be taught in church’s schools shouldn’t be taught in schools why not replace RS (religious studies) with a British values and laws class.

Given how religion still influences the world in which we live I think it should be studied - but the key issue is precisely how the subject is taught.

Secularism hasn't done an awful lot for French Society - because secularism in France is effectively the State Religion, they now have a very real and mounting issue with Islam.

Whatever your religious views, or lack of them, you can't properly understand how the world works or how our current societies came about without a knowledge of religion.

Looking back on the history of the world and the millions of people who have been killed in the name of RELIGION and the multitude of religions around the world who would decide what religion should be taught, the first amendment grants you the right to practice the religion you believe in and that no one should be able to dictate what that religion should be

The only part of religion that should be taught, is the historical atrocities that these believers-in-fairytales have caused.
Facts not fiction.

When in Rome Not so long ago a Christian country was able and willing to teach it's Children about it's beliefs and the religion they followed, witout fear nor favour. Now after opening it's arms to immigrants of all creeds, colours and ethnicities it has found its beliefs and history to be ridiculed and torn apart by following generations of those same peoples. Instead of holding on to the hand that helped them and gave them a home, they have instead squeezed it until it's bones have been crushed, Now comes the ultimate insult and crushing rid of all they held dear and slap them in the face. It;s our country now and these weak, woke wankers will let us have it I am sorry to say i am ashamed, sad and bitter. And here are the bright brains of England debating wether or not to stop RE....they should be ashamed to even be discussing such a dangerous and traitorous deed. God help us all and God save the Queen.

Religion should taught in religious classes only, and kept well away from all other subjects. Especially science.

My children school give the students 45 minutes to get find a seat and eat lunch. Amd there over 600 students .So if the school do let prayers in schools who it it for well we all know who it's for.and do they get to skip classes to pray.double standards like always but that's not unusual in the uk when it come to those people.

Yes Re should be taught but not with the exclusion of the religion of this country, Christianity and within that the Church of England. However it seems that RE teaching often has space for everything except Christianity.

No, indoctrination of impressionable children should be banned completely.

Like it or not, fundamental British values are connected with Christian beliefs. In Poland RE is optional; 98% of children attend classes. It appears to be benefitting them.

No. It should be an optional study subject.

It's only important if it focuses on Christianity.
