Do you take the credit when things go well for you? Is it your fault when things go wrong? Or are you a feather in the wind, guided through life by the great, mysterious other? These questions are at the root of a psychological concept called Locus of Control, introduced to Psychology by Julian B. Rotter (1954).

I feel like religion has a unique relationship with an individual's locus of control. Interesting concept.

what if your parents beat you when things go well for you, and are nice to you when things go wrong. What is a child supposed to do?

I suppose an external locus of control could put you on 'high alert'- imagine going to an exam and hoping with all your heart that the people around you won't start coughing!! All the studying in the world won't change what others do

People are groomed and trained to have an internal or external locus of control; when I decided to exercise an internal locus of control a SWAT TEAM raided my house
For real real

Do you deliberately confuse matters? 🤨
Having an internal locus of control has big, very unhealthy downsides, such as considering oneself to blame when it’s not the case, for example.
Also, is this locus of control or attributional error?
