Do you need the student books? Or can you work off the teachers guide?

I'd love a thorough flip through. I've been debating over this or road trip through the bible and I'm worried that the activities in aig aren't enough and aren't connected enough to the content to really help the kids retain or connect to what they're learning. From the sample download I saw that the teacher guide info for the lessons was thorough and has depth giving background and insight to the scripture passage but didn't know if it would be lost on my kids??

For the answers in genesis curriculum can you just purchase the teachers guide and use it like a read aloud? Or do you need the student notebooks to go along with the teachers guide?
