In some cities here in Germany it's common to just put a cardboard box on the street with stuff that's too good for trash but you don't want to sell it. So people passing by can just take whatever they want and that is SUCH a nice thing! :)
You can find anything in these gift boxes: baby clothes, vintage lamps, books, vases, plants, etc 😊

My favorite tip, I think I may have learned from you is: Does this item deserve to belong to someone who may enjoy it more than I do.

I think of my house as having a "weight". Whenever I take stuff away (recycle, Goodwill, dump, etc.) I feel like my house weighs less! This motivates me to declutter.

Hi Vera,
I lost my beloved husband recently and I've been feeling beyond sad. It was by chance that I found your videos on YouTube a couple of weeks ago. Since then I've been looking forward to watching them every time I pick up my phone. I'm impressed by your wisdom at such a young age. Thanks for sharing all these wonderful tips!

I think if you have a little bit too much things as bed linen or underwear and they are all okay and look good, you should keep them, bc later you are going to need new ones, and so you can just save money. But it works only if you like all of the peaces. Rational minimalism

I appreciate the “if you’re keeping it because you feel guilty, give it away.”

This is a very helpful, useful and enjoyable video. I am 77 (live in Portland, Oregon, USA). I am known for not keeping stuff. I am always purging. (much to me adult daughter's dismay. I told her that when I die, she and her husband (they live in The Netherlands) will be able to empty my 3 bedroom home in 8 hours. She agreed with me! I have done this all my life primarily because: a cluttered-filled home doesn't give room for organized thoughts.

One thing I was surprised to discover after decluttering for a few years was that you actually get very good at it. I’m so much clearer in my decision making. Making 100s of decisions has led me to know myself very well and what it is I value in an object. Like, I feel like I can hear my inner voice better because of it, which transcends decluttering and objects and things you can own, and that voice has gotten into every part of my life.

As I child, I had over a hundred stuffed animals. Over the years, I slowly let them go until I was down to about 6. I am 53, and I will keep these 6 for the rest of my life. ❤

Vera when I declutter I take things I'm getting rid of and immediately put them in our car. We go to town twice a week and the charity shop is on the list of places we need to go and drop off. Thank you so much for your ideas and tips. ❤❤ enjoy your time off have fun.

I heard another version of the magic question--"If this got dog poop on it, would I bother cleaning it or throw it in the trash?" Lots of good info in this, the guilt issue has always been a big one for me but I've gotten MUCH better about it.

Discarding knives: fold tape over the blades. You can also put them in a glass jar with a lid if they;ll fit.

My biggest obstacles to decluttering are sentimental value and the environmental impact. It's hard for me to haul things to a thrift store knowing how much stuff ends up in a landfill anyway. However, your explanation helped and it's something my husband said too - it will end up in a landfill anyway, either now or when I'm gone. Now I have yet to find a way to fight the sentimental part. It is SO HARD. They all seem to have a face for me, even if it's just clothing. Have a good break!

My stress and OCD have been getting the best of me lately... I was just thinking how badly I need to declutter my apartment, then BOOM, this is posted! Yay, thank you Vera.

Wishing you a lovely, restorative break.
One thing I have found helpful is to stop decluttering until I have gotten rid of the things already decluttered. Too often things decluttered accumulated in piles or bags or boxes by a door. Then I felt overwhelmed by a huge pile. Now there are two bins by the back door. When they are full, my effort shifts from decluttering to getting those things out of my house. This method has helped me immensely.

I was against the “maybe pile” but a delayed donation pile made me change my mind. I’m 8+ months postpartum and decluttered some pre pregnancy clothes, but we didn’t take the donation bag to the donation center right away, the day we were going to I saw a couple of my favorite pants that I couldn’t pull above my knees a few months ago, I thought they will never fit me again because “hips get wider after pregnancy”. Anyway, I decided to try them on one last time, and I was able to put them on!! They are a bit tight still but I’m hoping I can wear them soon since I’m still losing pregnancy weight. Moral of the story, keep a small maybe pile!!

I've been in the process of de-cluttering prior to a big house project. For the first time, (I'm a seasoned de-clutter-er as well as practiced donator and recycle-er), I realized it is OK to actually throw things away. I collected up a big pile of very worn out clothes that I had been keeping for dust cloths but never actually used. I cut up one pair of flannel pajamas to dust with and put the rest in a trash bag and put them in the trash container! No guilt!
