I immediately thought interstellar looked more real than wolf of Wall Street. The visuals were just so much more dynamic and sharp.

Tbh you could tell in I, Tonya. Her face was always a little too visible when she would go into fast spirals and spins.

Honestly the marina scene instantly stood out to me as looking really weird. I think it's a combination of the strange lighting and the 'wrong' geometry that places it in the uncanny valley for me. The real lighting in the tesseract scene made it instantly feel like a real space, even though it's a science-fiction environment.

My FAVORITE use of practical effects is Mad Max: Fury Road. All the cars, stunts, and explosions are real. They only really used CGI for the color of the landscape to make it super saturated, and to make Charlize Theron appear to be missing an arm.

Just goes to show that the wannabe film buffs going on and on about CGI being evil and practical effects are always best have no idea what they're talking about. Not only is seamless CGI used frequently in pretty much every modern movie, but it ignores the fact that practical effects and CGI are just tools in the director's tool box. Some effects look really fake when CGI is used, some effects look really fake when practical effects are used. It's up to the filmmakers to choose the right tool for the right job.
