Atomos Ninja V Skippy - Frame Drop Kangaroo

If you are using the Ninja V for Nikon, Canon, Panasonic or any other camera, you have or will face Skippy's Warning at some time, let me show you how to fix it.

Always do a secure format of the drive in the Atomos Ninja V and use cables that are HDMI 2.0. Do not change the drive names or modify any characteristics of the drive on your computer.

Informative. I bought new ninja v and facing yellow kangaroo display . I have used WD blue SA 510 and crucible Nand SSD. Now i have ordered WD blue 3D Nand and see if this gwt resolved ?

I have a crucial mx500 I had a issue it cuts a lot, maybe 2-3 seconds and it continues, making plenty of clips.

I have the skippy problem after this new HEVC upgrade: I can record at 4K23.98p 10 bit 4:2:2 with the DNxHR HQX option, which is 800Mb/s forever but when I try 4K60p 10 bit 4:2:2 in the HEVC HQ mode, which is half the data rate at 400Mb/s I can't record for more than 8 minutes before skippy appears. It will keep going but it stops soon after and I can't press the record button again and the ninja v gets so hot that I can't touch it for more than a couple seconds. I talked to Atomos about this and we went through many replies and they asked me to send the unit back for repairs and I just got it back repaired and the problem remains. I am using a Samsung 860 QVO 4TB.

For 24hrs now, I've been trying to figure out why my brand new Shogun 7 from time to time starts recording 10 second clips one after another and then it won't stop recording when I push the record button. I saw the kangaroo but didn't know what it was until very recently. I was trying to use an old drive I bought about 5 years ago that had very little use but has sat around in a file cabinet all this time.. going to get a new drive, thanks a million!

hello I come back to you, I told you about my problem with my ninja V and the ssd accounting. I followed your advice to take a ssd wd blue (I took it in 1to) and I could not make a 4k recording ... I had the skippy all the time, sometimes after a few minutes, other times after a few seconds ... I contacted Atomos, who finally repaired my ninja V, motherboard problem ... today my ninja v works perfectly with the ssd wd blue that you advised me. just test your drives with blackmagic disk benchmark also a bad hdmi cable could be the problème

Have the same skippy issue on that WD BLUE 500GB SSD, I changed from HDD to SSD but the skippy remains, very sad when it happens in the middle of client job....

I had this issue as well. I turned off the hdmi record control from my S1h. Now I record 4k60p to the internal SD card and Ninja without this issue. It seems to only happen at 4k 60p when triggering the ninja to record from the camera. I never had an issue at 24p. Simply tap the record button on the ninja and camera separately, or just record to the ninja only.

Same problem here. Use a Canon R5 with a Ninja V with the Samsung 1TB Blue SSD. Can record max 2 minutes and the skippy comes on and the recording stops. I only use 25fps in regular 4K. Tried 1080p. Same problem. Tried formatting the SSD with the Atoms. Not doing anything. Have hi-speed Atomos Cable. Tried my Fujfilm X100V. Same problem with it too. What to do. Buy a Samsung 500gb SSD??

Update: well, I got my Western Digital SSD that you recommended. I tested my Ninja V at the highest data thoroughput possible. 4k 60p 10bit 4:2:2 All-I. It ran for 36 minutes! My other Kingston drives fail in 10 minutes at 25% the data amount!!! Meaning... Your solution works!!!

The HDMI cabel could be the problem to! By one from Atomos and you will see the differens you got cheeper to on internet.
