Lexus' Ritzy Off-Roader Returns | 2022 Lexus LX 600 First Drive Review In 4K

Want a Land Cruiser in America? The Lexus LX is your only choice. Of course, that's not really an issue since the LX has outsold the Land Cruiser in the USA for ages. For 2022 the LX gets a ground-up redesign with a new frame, new body, new engines, transmissions, seats, interior, everything. I asked an engineer if anything was shared with the outgoing model and was told "maybe some screws." So there you go for the doubters in the crowd, the LX is all-new, but is it any good? Let's find out!

Not an air suspension. It's hydraulic and extremely reliable compared to the Range Rovers or other German air suspension that's prone to failure under 100k miles.

LX doesn’t have air suspension. “As before, the LX 600 uses Lexus' Active Height Control (AHC) suspension system, which uses hydraulics for ride height adjustment. There are four ride height settings—Low (for passenger access), Normal, High 1, and High 2.” Road and Track.

I'm still miffed that they didn't give this the hybrid twin-turbo V6 from the Tundra . Especially for a vehicle that's--let's be honest--going to spend a lot of time driving around town, it seems kind of unconscionable that they didn't make this a hybrid as standard.

Thats what id do given the current situation. If chips were on the table which last I heard Toyota has been doing well but its affecting them.

At the price, I would expect the LX to have an interior just as luxurious as the LS and it's disappointing Lexus didn't go that route. Well, to be fair the Mercedes GLS isn't exactly the S-Class of luxury crossovers but still...

Alex, the V35A-FTS engine on these LX have electronically controlled wastegate valves which control precisely how much compressed air they need to send to each individual turbocharger, therefore there is virtually no HP loss at lower atmospheric preassures.

The LSD is a cheap alternative. Center diff is good. This off-road capable vehicle deserves the front and rear lockers especially at this price. Engine is very strong and the 500 lb weight loss is fantastic. Perhaps Lexus used aluminum throughout the body panels (doors, hood, rear hatch?) to drop weight. The start/stop button in spot reserved for radio volume knob. Place it on the console and move radio knob down. Hopefully it will be reliable and Lexus will be accommodating with service and warranty.

It would be helpful if you also mention the payload capacity along with the tow capacity. The payload is the limiting factor in it's ability to tow. I do understand the payload varies based on the equipment but it's helpful to get a sense. For example, the 2021+ GLE can tow 7700lbs but has a less than 1100lbs payload which assuming a 600 lbs tongue wt gives less than 600lbs for passengers and cargo in the car. A family of 4 will easily exceed 600lbs. Same goes for the Durango SRT that you got.
