In this trip report video I not only show DB's (Deutsche Bahn) newest high-speed train, the InterCity Express 4 (ICE 4) in first class, but since I have just made this trip recently, you can also see what it is like to travel on a German train during this very challenging time. The ICE 4 is a very interesting train. In spite of being the next-generation successor of the ICE 3, its maximum speed is lower. However, it is more energy efficient.

Overall DB did a good job - I felt safe since the train was clean and there are clear rules of conduct for everyone.

The German rail system is great. All the ICEs I've traveled on over the years has been top class. Which ICE train has a glass wall to the driver's cabin? I thought that was awesome, very bright. Disappointing about the slower speed and less comfortable seating, but I'm sure it's still above and beyond.

Excellent video. In the US people are not really traveling as well and most people are working from home. I miss going in to the office (I live in NYC area) That being said I wish our inter city rail could come close to the quality of that in Europe. I hope to visit one day.

Regarding the cost overruns... believe me, this is very common everywhere, even Germany. The Berlin airport is another example. I read an article comparing Germany to other countries and efficiency doesn't stand out. The author put the German reputation for efficiency comes down to being rule followers. Speaking of which, this may explain German relative success against the covid epidemic. However, even the Greeks turned into rule followers during this epidemic and have done pretty well until the opening up of restrictions during the summer.
