As a ham radio operator myself I did a little digging into these radios. Yes, they are a re-branded baofeng UV-5r, but they come with the authorization and programming to use Rugged Race Products, Inc's business license (callsign WRCL361) so it looks like they are legal to use out of the box (ignoring the spurious emission issue).

I like most of the components of the kit except for the radio. Since I ride rain or shine I personally prefer water proof radios. One less thing to worry about. Rugged Radio recommends to keep it inside your backpack / water pack. Something I never use. I need to visit their site to see if they sell the components individually and if they’ll work with my radios.

It’s expensive, but in Baja I was able to talk to everyone. Especially in the middle of nowhere with no cell service . I recommend it for sure .

it may be worth mentioning that some of the radios have a bluetooth module, so that you can pair it with your headset wirelessly

Rugged is an overpriced, massively overpriced version of the Bao UV5R HAM radio (license required), nothing more! And as always, you can find the same or better solutions for much less! So even though your content is legit, it is biased and held back lots of vital info.

You seem to have forgot to mention that is radio is the same as a baofeng uv5r ($25 on amazon) and requires a ham radio license to use legaly. (though it is unlikely to be an issue if you are in the middle of no where vs in/near town)

A rebranded UV-5R for 5 times the cost. UV-5G, GMRS version is $25. Extended battery $18; Good speaker Mike $20.

A baofeng uv-5r is many things, rugged is not one of them. They break if you sneeze within 5 feet, but they're so cheap you aren't sad when they do.

Just curious, with the push to talk wires making it so your connected to your bike and your moto or your bike pretty hard what happens in the event of a crash? Will the wires and connections break or be destroyed?

Hmmm. Did the same for about 30 bucks. Now swapped to Sena, but have the availability for all frequencies allowed by my ham extra license.

Range is always described as "line of sight". What we'd like to know is in a typical single track application, will this out perform a Sena in range? We're planning some rides up in the mountains this summer, is this a better system?

You can get waterproof bags for these.
All the extra wiring is making things very complicated.
Just keep it high on your chest like the police do and use it sparingly for essential communication only.
The baofeng radios are cheap on ebay.
