The Istanbul Spice Bazaar is the Egyptian Bazaar located in Eminönü Square, Istanbul. Of course, Eminönü Square is located in the Fatih neighborhood of Istanbul and is known as one of the largest traditional markets in Istanbul. It is interesting to know about this market that after Istanbul Grand Bazaar, this market is the largest indoor complex in Istanbul. 😍😍
In 1660 AD, during the Ottoman rule, this market was built in Eminönü, which seems to have been one of the old neighborhoods of Istanbul from the beginning. After the completion, the buildings of a new mosque were started between 1660 and 1665 by Queen Torhan Khadijah and the mother of Sultan Mohammad Fateh, and they decided to build this market so that the income from the rent of its shops could be used for the maintenance of the new mosque. 😍😍
At First, in this market, products from inside and outside the Ottoman lands entered this port and were exported to other places by ship.
The name Misir, the Turkish pronunciation of Egypt, was given to this market because it was built with the funds of taxes received from the Egyptian people and a large caravan from Cairo to Istanbul every year, which brought many kinds of spices with itself to this city to be traded with Turkish merchants and in addition, because of the city of Istanbul is on the trade route between the eastern and western lands of The European continent, the Egyptians were very eager to trade with the Turks and this market. 😍😍
For a long time, the name of this market was the Egyptian market, but over time, foreign visitors who visited Istanbul changed the name of this market to the spice bazaar because they were far from the history of this market. In this market, they have seen the trade and sale of spices in Istanbul, and in their narratives, naturally, they referred to the Istanbul spice bazaar, not the Egyptian market and Mısır Çarşısı! 😍😍
