Bobby Orr is just quite simply the best hockey player ever. Offense, defense, hitting, shooting, killing penalties, blocking shots, and just simply out-skating everyone.
Calder trophy, 8 consecutive norris, 2 art ross trophies, 3 hart trophies, and 2 conn Smythe (all 4 trophies in 1970, and all but the art ross in 1972), only defenseman to ever win the scoring title (and he did it twice), and he only played 9 healthy seasons

Bobby Orr....not just the best defenseman of all time but the best player of all time. He gets the nod from me over Gretzky.

There have been many great hockey players but Bobby Orr is my choice overall.

Bobby Orr all day every day. I saw him play for the Oshawa Generals in the old Bowmanville Arena against the Toronto Marlboros, Montreal Jr. Canadians, and the Peterborough Petes…Orr was 14, not very big, and he sure didn’t look out of place playing against notables Ellis, Walton, Carlton, Selby, McKenny, Cournoyer, Boudrais, Grant, Lacroix, and Redmond. Great memories.

Brian Leetch was better than Pronger and MacInnis and is ranked higher than both of them on most lists. And on many lists Leetch is ranked higher than Scott Stevens. Stevens has ZERO Norris Trophies dude. MacInnis has ONE and it came when he was well past his prime. Leetch has 2 Norris Trophies in his prime in the era of Ray Bourque and snagged it away from him. Of course you're probably a hater because Leetch was American. Can't have "one of those" on your list right?

Larry Robinson. Outstanding defensive, killing penalties... no contest, you would pick him right away to be out there. Powerplay, his offensive numbers speak for themselves. Absolute top quarterback, the man you want out there. Skating, passing, getting the puck out of the zone, Robinson did it all. Although not a fan of fighting, it is part of the game and when teams tried to goon Montreal, they answered to Robinson...so they only tried that once ( the 76’ Flyers tried but to no avail). Leadership? People like to mention Messier. No one but Larry could act as mediator between his teammates AND opponents like he did . Watch clips, he actually breaks up some fights and talks sense to them, then referee and linesman would seem to consult and listen to him. Never saw that with any other player. I’ll get thumbs down, but in my opinion, he was the best player ever. Did he control the game and put up points like Orr? No. But add everything, Robinson I think is the best. Oh, and check his +/-, even though people nowadays seem to poke holes in that stat. Sorry for the long rant.

They should add Brian LEETCH to that list with his combined offensive skills and equally superb defensive play should put him right in the middle of this well respected players.

Great choices.
I also believe Borje Salming of the Toronto Maple Leafs should be in here.

I strongly disagree with the proposed list, for the following reasons:
1. Bobby😢 Orr was not a DEFENDER. He only played on the defender’s position. Thanks to his amazing skating skills and outstanding hockey sense, he was the fourth forward with an additional defensive load. His advantage in fitness and speed allowed for such a team formation. Everybody have to be blind or unwilling to comprehend strategy in hockey in order not to notice it!
2. What is Criss Pronger doing on this list? A huge, fit, rude clumsy, who compensated for his clumsiness on the ice with rudeness?
3. Where are Guy Lapointe and especially Borje Salming and Vyacheslav Fetisov on this list? Well, the absence of the latter can be explained by the fact that they are not North Americans. However, the first during years had pulled (and how!) really weak Maple Leaves on itself! Regarding the ability of Fetisov: please, answer the question: How many goals (and passes) did the outstanding Wayne Gretsky score, both in the clubs and with the National Team, when he was on ice, playing against Vyacheslav Fetisov?

Brad Park had the bad luck to play the same time as Bobby Orr and then when Orr retired he had to compete with Denis Povin.

Ever hear of Brian Leetch? You need to do some more research.

For me it's Nick Lidstrom. Bar none smartest defenseman I've seen in my 28 years of life. Him and Coffey are my favorites
