Does Every Desktop Feature Need A Toggle?

When you designing a project whether it's a simple app or the scale of a desktop environment you can be tempted to make everything configurable but you need to think about whether that actually adds value.

Create toggles but also reset switches, multiple setting profiles, beginner, advanced, expert users, that have various things turned on or off to cater different situations.

I like my desktop environment but there's too much desktop environment. We need a toggle for that.

A toggle is actually not trying to solve a problem. It's the lazy way to pass the problem to the user. Some may appreciate this freedom, if they are themselves kind of engineers and are highly opinionated. Often however there is no need for a configuration, if the engineer tries to solve it by automating the decision.

Both approaches are correct, but only if it aligns with the goal of your project. Maybe ad a toggle to hide/show advanced toggles. Sounds funny, but this approach is exactly what some applications are doing. I wish KDE would have some sort of BEGINNER and an ADVANCED mode, where the beginner mode has less options and settings to choose from, but automates a bit more.
