Learn Chinese by Listening to The Story Behind a Song.

Eileen will introduce a simple classic Chinese song by singing it and playing the guitar (sort of! :)!) She will then tell you a story behind the song so you can practice your Chinese listening and learn new Chinese vocabulary. One unique feature of this series is that we will provide (on screen) a literal translation of what is being said. This should help students greatly to understand every single word that is being said and we format the subtitles so they look great even on a smartphone!

The second video in this series features a story about how Eileen became interested in learning how to play the guitar.

Theresa Teng is one of my favorite artists. She had a real talent for singing and languages, I admired her knowledge of ...??
However when you master one language of this group of languages: " dutch/german/english/french" then the other languages of this group are not so difficult to learn, because of the similarities.
Btw, I know 4 of these languages and I'm busy studying speaking/writing mandarin now, but the tones are still very difficult to me because unlike you and Theresa Teng, I do NOT have a good singing voice ;-)

*TOO FAST?* Control the video's playback speed by speeding up or slowing down the video *5% at a time* on *desktop computers and laptops* OR *25% at a time* on *smartphones!*
Access the playback speed controls as follows:

*Desktop Computers and Laptops:* open the video, then go to the *lower right* of the video's screen and click on the *settings icon* (it looks like a GEAR). On the upper right of the options window that comes up, you will see the link *"custom".* Click on the "custom" link to control the video's playback speed by speeding up or slowing down the video 5% at a time.

*Smartphones:* open the video and go to the *upper right* of the video's screen. You will see *3 dots.* Click on them and you will see the link to open the *"playback speed"* controls. Click on this link and you will be able to control the video's playback speed by speeding up or slowing down the video 25% at a time. Note that viewing the video on desktop computer/laptops gives you *greater control* over the playback speed (5% vs 25% on smartphones).
