Energy prices going CRAZY around the world, impacting on fuel and electricity prices in the US, UK & Australia, so how much does it cost to drive in these places now for Electric & Combustion cars?

More importantly what will be the breakeven point be when it doesn't become cheaper to drive electric.

Other Videos you might like about cost & efficiency:

In this video a full breakdown of last years cost per mile for combustion and electric, compared to current prices, with predictions of where it has to be to be the same. Australia and USA are pretty safe, but the UK is not far off in some circumstances.

Prices for fuel used in March 2022 were:
UK Price per Litre £1.80
USA Price per Gallon $4.17
Australia Price per Litre $1.83

Exchange rates used:
£1 = US$1.31
£1 = AU$1.80
£1 = €1.19

To work out fuel cost per mile and average MPG was used for each country:
USA 25MPG / 9.3L/100km
UK 52MPG / 5.4L/100km
Australia 25MPG / 11.1/100km

The MPGe for electricity cost per mile was 141MPG or 1.67L/100km (or 24kWh/100miles) which is the efficiency of my 2019 Tesla Model 3. Some MPGs of EVs are in the low 100MPGe, so electricity cost per mile varies significantly between brands.

Loved the video although I did need to pause every so often for my brain to catch up 😂. Appreciate the work gone into the production quality 👍.

Thanks for another great video. Very relevant and a topic that has been widely ignored in the mainstream media. I have finally ordered my new Model 3 today, after a couple months of watching your channel I am now convinced.

I don’t think I’ve ever paused a YouTube video that much in my life. No wonder you haven’t had time to meet up 🙄
Very good 👏🏼

We live in Southern Australia and we have solar. In the summer, the cost to charge an EV is close to zero, particularly on a long cloudless day. Winter not so much, but we have a power bank and charge our battery overnight on the cheaper rate.

Another great video and proves what I already know. EV's are cheap to run, if you get on a low FV tariff such as Octopus GO @ 5p/kWh. My Tesla M3 SR+ is running at 1.7p/mile or £204 for 12, 000 miles. Even when it goes up to 7.5p kWh it will only be £306 for 12, 000 miles! Plus no servicing, road tax or trips to the petrol station...

Love the vids and really persuaded me to make the eletric plunge! Had my model 3 for a few weeks and have been trying to use the octopus referral link online but am always pointed to phone the company due to the current price hikes. Is there a reference I can use over the phone for your octopus referral?

Great video. Can you let me know who still offers a good EV tariff. Octopus don’t seem to be offering it for new customers in the current climate neither does anyone else as far as I can see.

So annoyed haha, been with Octopus for years but trying to get a smart meter fitted is nigh impossible they are perpetually booked up when trying to switch to Go. Just glad its still cheaper than my old ICE car to run at the moment, even at the current energy prices and charging on a 'normal' tarrif. Octopus said our new April onwards Kwh price would be ~24p up from ~21p, so not too bad but yeah, some people are being slapped with ~40p+ which is just insane!

since only looking at fuel. BUT the cost of servicing items like spark plugs, oil oil filters and the environmental cost of making these items is far higher.
with a high BMW you could have a £600 road tax, my skoda fabia was £160 while EV's have £0 Road tax at the minute.
if you divide your road tax amount BY your yearly mileage. and add that on to the mile cost for fuel you see closer to what a fuel cost is.
may be look at this what is your gallon of fuel cost. and how many miles can you do on 1 gallon in your fuel car.
now if you buy electricity with that 1 Gallon money, how far can you go in a EV.

so Rac say average petrol price uk is £1.65. which is £7.43 a gallon. Now if take the £7.43 the cost of a gallon and buy electricity at 26p you buy 29 Kwh or units.
if a Tesla get 4 miles to a unit then 29 x 4 = 116 miles if you do 5 miles to a unit it would be 29 x 5 = 145 miles.

I think you should have calculated the EV price based on the 7.5p rate - if you are not on an EV tariff, you must not care how much you are paying. And it's also worth mentioning that your Tesla has what, 250hp and 5.4ish to 60? What mpg does the equivalent fuel car get? 😀
