How does a mulching mower work?

I use mine to shred weeds mom leaves on the side of the lawn rather than picking them up. They vanish without a trace and I continue to mow the rest of the lawn. We have some trees and rather than weed wacking around them, I just get the mower up close enough that most of the weeds get cut down. The few that stay get stomped flat and I go after them next (while they are still down). I just don't like weedwackers. I always had trouble with those 2 stroke engines and they are only worse next year. I once had a slightly sore hand from the cord on a stubborn 2 stroke engine so you can only imagine that I am thankful for 40 volt batteries!!

Can one by adjusting and daily sharpening blades get the results a 6blade reel mower gives??

Why is the entire mower body plastic even the handles? Or does it just look that way
