Amtrak Charger Long Distance Test Train

Amtrak operated a extra (empty) train on January 28, 2020 with a variety of horizon, viewliner and superliner equipment.

Known as train A-919-1-28A, it was a test run of the Siemens SC-44 Chargers in long distance service. Amtrak has ordered long distance variations of the Chargers (ALC-42s) due to being service in 2021 to replace the long-time GE Genesis locomotives.

The train was running ahead of the regular service Amtrak 7/27 from Chicago through North Dakota, then followed 7/27 the rest of the way to Seattle.

The green tint to the video is part of the video camera's "Night Shot Vision" feature that helps illuminate night videos a little better.

A great catch! I thank you for posting and I await the train here on it's return to Chicago from Emeryville.

Great Catch! Well, I guess the P42s aren’t going to be lasting much longer on this route anymore. Sad to see the old ones go but it is exciting to see the Chargers. Again, great catch.

I will surely miss the Genesis locomotives, especially on the Pennsylvanian despite the technical problems. However, I am just getting used to these Chargers and I'm just fine with them.

Awesome video dude, I love what you are doing and keep it up. I might consider doing something similar on my channel but in a tiny format with my TinyTrainTrack (like with a camera angle like yours). Subbed and much love from Canada.

I wonder where they got that equipment from. Were they pulling all those diners that have been taken out of service and replaced with airline meals? LOL
