SCIENTIFIC METHOD
Scientific Method is a series of steps followed by scientific investigators to answer specific questions about the natural world.
The Steps of Scientific Method
1. Make an Observations
2. Ask a Question
3. Form a Hypothesis
4. Conduct an Experiment
5. Analyze the Results
6. Draw Conclusion
SHORT EXPLANATION:
1. Making an Observations
The scientists observe the outside world through their senses such as seeing, feeling, hearing, and smelling.
For example: Betty sees tomato plants grow slowly.
2. Asking a Question
The scientists develop question that can be solved through experiment.
For example: Betty asks a question, "do plants grow bigger if fertilizer is applied?"
3. Forming a Hypothesis
The scientists predict the result or outcome of the experiment.
Hypothesis is an educated guess about the relationship between the independent and controlled variables.
For example: Betty hypothesizes that If fertilizer is applied to tomato plants, then they will grow bigger.
4. Conducting an Experiment.
The scientists Test the hypothesis by doing the experiment.
For example: Betty makes procedure for her experiment. She also prepares needed materials and then, proceed to the experiment by doing and following the procedures she has made.
5. Analyzing the results.
The scientists record and interpret the results of the experiment.
For example: Betty records the results and analyzes the changes happened on tomato plants.
6. Drawing conclusion.
The scientists determine if the hypothesis is correct or not.
The hypothesis of Betty, a while ago, is If fertilizer is applied to tomato plants, then they will grow bigger.
If it’s correct, she will conclude that the Tomato Plants grow bigger if fertilizer is applied.
