It goes without saying that Youtube is a massive, swampy landscape over-saturated with far too many videos about gaming made by people with no ability to present a video or undertake basic research.

I hope you realise how much your videos are appreciated because of this. It's nice that someone takes the time to create professional, straight-forward videos about the history of the industry without weighing it down with ham-fisted humour, grating personalities or the constant desperate begging for subscriptions and comments. Please never stop making videos.

I have never heard of Smash Bros til the gamecube. I was in the store with my dad, we were originally getting a PS2. Then I saw a screen with Smash Bros in it. I said to my dad, I wanted the gamecube instead. And I never regretted it. We still bought a PS2, a year later tho.

That commercial is still one of my all-time favorites.  The same goes for my dad, and he doesn't even really play video games.  Even today, he STILL brings it up.

Rest in peace, Iwata. You helped create an amazing franchise.

Thanks to SSB Melee, people were introduced to the world of Fire Emblem and with a few exceptions, staring from Fire Emblem: The Sword of Flame, each title would be released in the west.

I have been marathoning your channel since I've found it. God I love it. You make video games interesting to learn about and do not need a gimmick. Also your edits are simple and in the wasteland we call youtube it is very refreshing to see. I applaud your production value, your research, and your love for gaming and history.

I love this. I'm not even much of a fan of Super Smash Brothers, but I am enjoying this because of the way you do it. Honestly, I am not aware of anyone else on youtube who goes into as much depth or presents with as crisp a narrative.

Watched 1 of your about an hour and a half ago about game and watches and now i cant stop. I grew up during the 90's, so nostalgic watching vids about all these great games, me and my friends still played melee after we graduated highschool. Also are you the same person as the 'internet historian'?

Remembering the first ever commercial for the first Smash Bros game. You know, the one with the characters frolicking alongside each other with the song "So Happy Together" playing XP . Ahh.... good times.

I LOOOVED the competitive nature of fighting games within the lost cities of Atlantis known as : Arcades! I still remember being 11 yrs old and putting my quarter on the bottom of the screen in the corner of the challenger. Meaning, a player on a win streak was allowed to keep his spot, taking on all comers, until losing. As a challenger, you placed your quarter in line, wait for your turn to fight, so on & so forth. Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Virtua Fighter, Tekken, Capcom vs Marvel... The list goes on.

I miss the 90's!

I always really liked the individualized target practice levels in melee. It made you really delve into each character’s unique moveset, and learn how to master it as a result. It’s the one thing I miss in modern smash games.

Pretty much everything you said is spot on with what I've witnessed from when this franchise was pretty much an indie game to one of biggest names in games today. I still remember seeing that Smash Bros commercial as a kid and was blown away that such a game existed and had to have it. I still remember myself in the backseat of the car with the box in my hand just ogling at it.
I couldn't tell you how many weeks I've spent playing the absolute shit out of Melee. Personally, I think Melee is the better out of the four in terms of content, ambition, and 'love' put into the game, probably nostalgia is factored in as well. Each one is different in what they wanted to do with it, and I respect that and thoroughly enjoy each one as they are. However, Melee just has a special place in heart.

I look forward to part 2!

Super Smash Brothers will always be one of my favorite games of all time the N64 version was so amazing I would Main Kirby because I loved that he could have other characters powers and when melee came out I instantly fell in love with Bowser and still main Bowser to this day.

I remember in high school playing this game after class. My school had a video game club if you would believe that.
