Setting a World record is already impressive, but winning by this margin is just mind-blowing 🤯

You have to remind yourself that Ledecky is is a race with 7 of the fastest swimmers in the world!!

A sport where the winner is frequently decided by a fraction of a second... and she's more than 20 seconds ahead. Is MINDBOGGLING.

I remember watching this live on TV when it first aired and thinking how strange it was that it looked like she was all alone in the pool during an Olympic final, something I had never seen before

Even though Ledecky finished over 20 sec ahead of her competitors, a big CONGRATS to everyone that made it to the Olympics. Must have been a dream come true.

Ledecky is not competing with everyone. She is competing with the Worlds Record

Just can't imaging how disheartening it must be to swim against her. You're going all out and trying as hard as you can but just know in your heart you're playing for 2nd.

She finished a 800m swim faster than I can do an 800m run

I was sitting at a local bar.
It was crowded and loud.
On the TV, over the bar, a women's swim meet had just started.
At first I was only paying casual attention.
Then I saw things getting weird.
It was like the other swimmers were going slow...while one swimmer was pulling out ahead.
And then she was further ahead...and not stopping.
I pointed at the screen and said "Hey, look at that", to my friends.
And others stated watching.
And the lead swimmer....she just kept going. Always gaining.
And now, people standing behind me were yelling at the TV.
And the lead just kept getting bigger and bigger.
And the crowd kept getting larger and larger.
And finally, they got to the last lap.
And now the whole bar is cheering.
And Katie Ledecky comes in first.
And everyone is screaming and cheering and crying.
It was awesome.

If the lead is the margin of victory, the race coverage shouldn't have ended until the silver medalist finished.

she just finished that first flipturn and then was like wayy ahead of the others (i mean, a few feet isn't 'wayy' but that could make a big difference) she was literally just gliding in the water

that sad moment when her competitors know they are just fighting for the 2nd place
