he was distracted by his own voice acting gimmick turning the camera off, and just saw the queen over the right card without connecting that he was flipping over the middle card.

I can see what happened. When he was reading the text, and the alligator had the Queens up to the screen, it was on the right, on top of the right card. But because he was reading the text and only saw the card with his peripheral vision, he registered it was on the right.
That's why he got confused.
