2 Kings 17 says the northern tribes were exiled in the assyrian territories and never returned to their land. They got replaced with people from the regions they were exiled into.
There's no documented mass return into Samaria nor Judah for them.
James letter aknowledges the distinct status of the respective tribes.

And the prophecies about the regathering of the 12 tribes all agree it's at the second return of Messiah. And this is yet to happen.
