So this week I visited a cat shelter to volunteer and to spread some information about adopting cats. Although the tips I share here can be spread to getting most pets, not just cats.

I doubt I was much assistance at the cat shelter, it was likely I caused more work than saved, but everyone at Cat’s Protection were LOVELY.

I had a kitty. Adopted her right off the streets, actually. She was so chill, so sweet, because she knew she was safe after I found her. I got lucky. I know a lot of wild cats never calm down when given a home, but mine became a lapcat almost immediately. Couldn't go anywhere without her following me, actually. I loved the shit out of that cat.

Maybe I'm ready to LOVE AGAIN and get another cat. It's been years.

I went to a cat shelter and promptly discovered that I am incredibly allergic to cats. I remember the heavenly joy of experiencing petting an entire room filled with wonderful cats at once before my entire face swelled up like a balloon and I had to get injected with... something as so my immune system didn't strangle me alive. Anyway, I promptly returned and took in one of the adorable felines because clearly I was not going to be deterred by nearly asphyxiating myself, discovering just one cat is somehow unable to trigger such an intense immune response. Cats are great.

In my experience you just leave a door open for 5 minutes and now you have a cat. Worked 3 out of 3 times in 40 years for my family:D

I felt lonely as I had moved to a new town and was suffering from depression. Attempted suicide and got better. To have something to do while going through medication, I decided to get a cat. I wasn't sure if I could ever own a cat or how long I could keep it.
Ended up being a "temporary" home for cats that has been rescued. Ended up with the first cat that is a sweet Tortoise Cat I named Limpan (Swedish for something like Dark Loaf) because she looked like one.
One and a half year later, I still have her and even declined apartments because I could not be allowed to keep her.

Remember everyone, pets are great and she has been a huge comfort for me! As they say, adopt; don't shop.

She's probably right about the not playing with your hands thing, my hands are pretty heavily scarred from playing with cats lol.

Cats are just like little roommates. They are independent, they can range from honey sweet to bitter asshats, but theyve all got plusses and minuses

I have 6 kiddos and they range from 1 to 11 years old. Theres the tiny, aggressively sweet bee, the grumbly, bad-tempered mini mao, and the loud, naughty columbia.

My Luna was a shelter cat, too...She's such an adorable, sweet, goofy idiot and I'm glad I found her. I went into the room where she and about a dozen other cats were at the shelter, got in a chair to watch the cats a bit and see which ones I might be interested in adopting, and immediately there was this slinky little black cat in my lap. I knew immediately which cat was coming with me because she had picked me out instantly.
