Haydn: String Quartets, Vol. 6 Op. 1 & 2

On this release, the Buchbergers have recorded Haydn’s Quartet Divertimenti Op. 1 and Op. 2, called ‘Cassationen’ by the composer himself. By developing the material in these early works Haydn already demonstrated his innovative powers. This music goes beyond being mere entertainment.

There are 10 pieces on this release, all having five movements, mainly based on dances such as the Minuet. This music may seem easy to perform, but its transparency actually makes it treacherous for the musicians. Once more the Buchberger Quartet succeeds in putting Haydn’s mastery across in inspired and detailed performances.

I have a deep rooted love for the string quartets of Franz Josef Haydn.

Haydn was the father of the string quartet. Haydn during his lifetime composed 64 complete string quartets.

It is solely because of Haydn that string quartets are much loved in the western world as well as in the east among classical music connoisseurs.

Just the other day I was listening on YouTube to the complete string quartets of Haydn. I forget the name of the group that was playing but I was immediately transported to heaven.

The string quartets of Haydn are heavenly to say the least.

Because I have loved the string quartets of Haydn from the age of 10 that is why today I have such a deep rooted appreciation for the complete string quartets specially of Beethoven, Schubert, Mozart, Brahms, Schumann, and last but not the least Dvorak.

The string quartets of Beethoven and Dvorak are to die for.

The rasumovsky string quartet of Beethoven is my absolute favourite quartet of all time.

I could listen to it anytime anywhere.
