W.Vincent Wallace emigrated to Hobart where he was a violin player at the new Theatre Royal (built 1830, the oldest theatre in Australia). He moved to Sydney and was referred to as the Paganini of the colony.It was thought that he started composing Maritana there, but that may be urban myth
