I used this game to teach my 5 years old son base math.

We played like this:
Each player rolls and can put down sum of dots or the number of dots on one of the dices. Then the bext person rolls. If you cannot put down the sum of dots or the number from a dice you lose your round and pass the dices to next player. The winner is the person who closes the box

You can change the rules and subtract insted of adding dots 😊

He learned how to add and subtract on a basic level.

That was perfect. Thank you. Most descriptions I had found for this game called for it to be played for stakes settled after each round rather than over multiple rounds. Your scoring system is simple but elegant.

This was the inspiration for the television game show "High Rollers." Players would buzz in to answer questions, with correct answers getting control of the dice. Repeat until the last number is eliminated, at which point you win, or you roll a combination impossible to use, at which point you lose.

I also have a game called Double Shutter: Shut the Super Box. That version has 2 rows of numbers, one counting forward 1 to 9, and the other counting backwards 9 to 1. Players begin with the front row and can shut any combination from either row, or use 1 number from each row.

If a player has only 1 to 6 on the back row left, he/she can use just one die if wanted since you cannot roll a 1 with two dice.

If you clear both rows, you have shut the super box! (I've never done it as of now.)

It has been years since I have played Shut the Box, but always loved it. Thanks so much for sharing this video - love the Head to Head version. Could even play that method solo. Cheers!

My dad and I played a game called "Shut the Hell Up. It went like this. "Pop, the ice cream truck is outside" And He'd say "Shut The Hell Up"!

You mentioned TWICE, that you have to have two tiles to turn over ("an equal number of tiles to turn over"), yet TWICE you flipped just ONE tile. I've heard s/one from England go over the rules, and you CAN turn over just ONE tile on your turn...you add the two DICE together, and that TOTAL will allow you to turn 1, 2, or 3 or even FOUR tiles over.

However you can get to the total on both dice, that's the tiles you turn over. You can also put a "spin" to the game and use multiplication. So I guess there are no hard, fast rules. As long as folks are havin' fun, & when played with children, it can be a great tool to hone their math skills.

We played this at my buddys birthday party...man it was so funn ive never heard of it. We played for $1 per round with 4 people playing each round. Is it true that you can only put down a maximum of two numbers each roll?

Since the object is to shut the box...lowest score win... If there is 2 & 7 left... You have the score 27. Next person has to get a lower score than 27 or shut the box to win. If 1st person shuts the box...2nd player must shut the box or lose. Atleast, that's how we played it...or we added up the last still standing for a score...again, lowest score wins. ( 2 player).

Funny, i invented this game as kid when i was like 10years old. I called it schoolbus. But to make it more fun the roller could choose to roll both dice or just 1 dice.

I had a game in the UK called Spicer Dice that was exactly the same as this.

Should I return it? Or just keep it and play the game trying to add up to 10.
