you can bend back the pins on keyboard switches, like a cpu, so it's salvageable. and bending them back doesn't even need skill or steady hands, you can bend them back with your thumbs

Some tips: gateron make some pretty good pre-lubed switches, but I personally like to relube mine cuz they can be kinda inconsistent. I would say #1 for preluded atm is HMX. When working with hotswap, it’s best to take the pcb out and support the socket from the back as pushing too hard can sometimes pop the socket in the back out and then the key just won’t work unless u know how to solder. Pins can easily be unbent as well, so no big deal if you bend some. The next thing I think is important is north facing vs south facing leds on your pcb. Most gaming boards will have north facing leds cuz it’s better for rgb, but because of that orientation, cherry profile keycaps won’t fit with certain switches so if you got north facing and cherry profile keycaps make sure to grab switches where the orientation doesn’t matter.

Switches are all preference, but gateron currently makes smoothie switches that kick oil king's prelube in the teeth for under half the price. Oil kings are extremely outdated at 60 cents per switch, with many modern options like HMX coming in at 30 cents a switch with exceptional prelube and housing tolerances.

Welcome to the club!, also you can bend them back if they aren't that bad like AM4 pins.

The thing about it as a "hobby" is: How often do you really want to swap out? I had the itch briefly. I bought a nice mechanical keyboard and now I'm good. It looks great and I think keycap swaps would arguably make it worse, and unless a switch breaks I don't intend to mess with it for years.

Hey @zachtechturf just wondering if the rx 6800 and the ryzen 5 5600x is a good combo for 1440p gaming and 1080p

Hey Zach, I would just like mention how there's ryzen 4070 references in every comment section of any video that talks even just a little bit about pc hardware. It really blew up.

oil kings are good but if you ever decide to try another one try gateron milky yellows. they sound alot better and also come pre-lubed.

HIGHLY recommend Akko cream yellow switches.

Also, just get a brush and lube, it’s nothing you need to overthink. You don’t need to disassemble the switch. You can just use the brush to lube what you can.

I bought the cheapest 96% keyboard with 2.4ghz wireless, BT, and usb-c from Amazon at the time. Used the foam that came in the packaging and put it under the PCB to dampen reverb.
