June 6, 2016 - Vice President of the United States, Joe Biden, made a surprise visit to the 10th annual gala for the American Institute for Stuttering. He spoke from the heart about his personal experiences with the speech disorder and encouraged people to never laugh at someone for stuttering. Bruce Willis and Aaron Graff were the honorees for the evening, and Clarence Page was master of ceremonies. Very special thanks to the tremendous support from Amgen, Citadel, Joan Ganz Cooney and Peter Peterson, FedEx, Ferring Pharmaceuticals, and all of our other sponsors!

The American Institute for Stuttering (AIS) provides specialized, universally-affordable stuttering therapy and support for children and adults who stutter.

As a stutterer, I whole heartedly appreciate this Man. We’ve spent years listening, observing, sitting back....more than most, learning with honed senses, the nuances associated with spoken communication. You, Future President Biden, are the champion, the bar, and the Voice that will reverberate throughout my drive.
Thank you Sir.

Man watching this has greatly impacted my view of Biden. I didn't realize what an empathetic and caring man he truly is. I started tearing up when he started to tell off parents laughing at stutters. I will always remember his quote about stutters being the only disability that people still laugh at. I'm excited and hopeful to see President Biden lead our country. Thank you so much for uploading this video.

I stuttered as a teenager, and I was bullied for it in school. It still hurts after all these years when I think about it, and I can totally relate to what Biden said about the humiliation and being ashamed. It is very inspiring to see a former stutter become Vice President, and now President.

What an incredible speech. I don't stutter, I don't really know anyone with a proper stutter, but here I am in tears. People say much about President Biden's gaffes, but this speech makes up for any other speech he might have messed up.

I'm 38 and I've stuttered since preschool. Nothing has worked for me, therapy, hypnotherapy etc. It causes me great pain to this day and I find it better not to talk that much because of being laughed at or mocked. But I take great comfort from other famous stutterers out there like Emily Blunt, Bruce Willis, Rowan Atkinson, & Samuel L Jackson. And others I didn't even know about like Julia and Eric Roberts, Nicole Kidman, Sam Neill and Elvis Presley. We're not alone guys, we're stronger than most people 💖

14:42 I don’t agree with virtually any of his politics but he’s 100% right about this.

He might not be the person some people want as President, but he is the kind of person we need after 4 years of chaos.

I’ve been suffering from stuttering since I was a little boy. I’m 38 now. I can’t say enough how hard it is to live with this disorder. I’ve been laughed at and mocked many times. People who don’t understand think there is something wrong with me. People fear what they don’t understand. My stutter does not define who I am as a man. This speech really touched my heart. 😢

My Physics teacher made me say my name in front of the whole class in high school once. I couldn't do it until the end of the class. I am 30 now and still remember it like yesterday. I had a lot of embarassing moments growing up.
