Unpopular opinion but high end makeup ISNT automatically better

If something is more expensive I think it should be made with better than the regular stuff at least. Paying JUST for a name is silly goose behavior.

Not only that but I have recently learned that high end makeup brands and inexpensive makeup brands can be equally as LAZY or equally INNOVATIVE so it just depends on the products as she said beautifully ❤️

drugstore has come a LONG WAY from 10 years ago, especially if you shop the cheap options at ulta and target are really impressive for the price

i love drugstore makeup, I like that I can experiment more with different items cause they're more affordable and I don't feel guilty about buying them..high end I feel like I really gotta commit to even buy the item and even if I don't like it I'll try use it up cause it's so damn expensive 😭

I used to work for Mac cosmetics, which are owned by Estee Lauder, which also owned other brands like La mere, I can tell you as a formal employee, I used to get 85% discount off their products, and I know they still made profits! I have never purchased any brand of cosmetics since I left. If you read the ingredients, some of the drugstore brands have better ingredients, and quality because they used the money to invest in production and research, instead of advertising and marketing like big brands.

Most high end and drug store makeup are owned by the same companies. Loreal, Revlon, LVMH, etc. So sometimes the formulas are pretty identical since they are all part of the same parent company and sometimes made in the same factory.

It depends on the person's skill level too. Some people are better at applying makeup than others.

I've unfollowed and unsubscribed from creators that told the audience that high end "is always better", "better performing & longer lasting". I've found $1.98 gel liners that won't come off after they're set and $15 foundation that made my skin look filtered IRL. In this economy I cannot justify spending more than $40 on a makeup product. Especially when drugstore has upped their game instead of their prices (most of the time lol) and no one knows what brand is on my face unless I tell them!

Another thing to consider for eye health is most makeup has a short shelf life and can breed bacteria after a certain amount of time ( mascara ), so certain items have to be bought over and over again and it just makes sense to get the less expensive brand especially if you get the same or better results.

As a 54 y.o. using makeup since the 80's, I can definitely say drugstore products have greatly improved in recent years. It wasn't always as good, great to see this!💄🌹

I’m so glad that by the time I became a teenager the makeup at the drugstore became really nice and inclusive. I was able to experiment and do a lot of fun makeup, but I was also able to find makeup that actually matched the undertone of my medium skin

Honestly, makeup is a trial and error thing. Try both high and low end and choose the ones you feel works best for you.

Also, loved that you compared this to bags. I’m a huge bag collector and have a ton of them, a mixture of high and low end bags. My favorite is a no name black clutch I found in the clearance aisle at a department store. It’s also the one I get the most compliments on. My every day go to is a wristlet I paid $20 for in a little store by my house. Designer doesn’t always mean better in anything.
