Sonar from ww2 is so cool especially on US destroyers like the fletcher class. You have your sonar ofc that pings every 5 or so seconds. Sonar from ww2 can only really look in a very narrow path so you have to manually turn it with a dial. Once you spot a sub with sonar from ww2, it then will burn black strips on a machine called TRR. The TRR tells you when to drop depth charges. TRR is a very complicated machine but it basically works by you in the bottom right (usually) setting your depth charge timer and on the left the speed of the enemy sub. At the top is the distance. It will print the paper with every sonar ping and will burn the black or red strip. There above the TRR is a piece of thin plexiglass that has measurements on it for distance and speed. You use that to determine when to drop the depth charges because the black strips will be over the plexiglass measurement line. It’s very complex and is so good!

Fun fact we tried weaponizing it but it was killing too much wildlife like whales and other fish. It was even affecting the tissue on the whales.
