Ford BlueCruise - Hands free makes road trips a BREEZE!

We've used Ford's BlueCruise for several months including some long road trips. If you don't know what BlueCruise is, it is basically a hands free version of Tesla's Basic AutoPilot. GM has a similar hands free version called SuperCruise.

In this video, we're nearing the completion of a long 1,000+ mile road trip and much of it was done in BlueCruise. I show you some of the features of BlueCruise along with a couple of tips.

The Blue Cruise is amazing never thought I would let the car drive but not was I wrong got my license when I was 16 been driving for 50 + years and if you would have told me that in 50 years cars would run on electric and drive itself I would not have believed it

For quite some time I've had a rule that I wouldn't do a car trip longer than 3-1/2 hours (coincides with the distance to my in-laws). I recently broke my own rule to take my son to see the Cowboys play in Jacksonville.

Blue Cruise has made me reconsider my 3-1/2 hour rule. It worked like a charm. The only "issue" occurred whenever the exit lane did not have lane markers. As I passed the exit I had to put my hands back on.

It was disappointing how many Electrify America DC fast chargers had issues. I spent a considerable amount time talking to other Mach-E owners waiting for the working stations.

I did a road trip from MI to ME and back in the fall almost 100% with Blue Cruise. It was the easiest trip I have done. Heavy rain or any time the system can't see the marking it will turn off hands free also interestingly it turns it off for EZ pass readers. It can handle will marked construction zones but for general safety I keep a hand on the wheel anyway in those areas. By far the best feature outside of being electric.

Great video. I actually did a road trip through that exact area earlier this year to visit my grandparents and my Mach-E did great and the BlueCruise was extremely helpful. Not sure if you feel the same way but after being in a BlueCruise for a while it almost feels like you're sitting in a bus or a train and you're just a passenger. Thanks for the video and welcome to California 👍🏼☀️

Really appreciated Liv doing the outro. I have missed her on the last few videos by Patrick, though I know she was behind the camera. 😊

Probably should mention that hands free feature only works below 80-81 mph. The steering, for me, has worked really well. The hands free option is highly variable. Although I did have one trip from Denver to Colorado Springs where I never had to put my hands on the wheel. One caution about the speed control. In Colorado we have this thing where traffic is going 70+ and then just comes a halt. The Mach E does not handle that well.

I have a brand new 2023 premium MME and my Blue Cruise is not working. I am on highways that are mapped out. I have everything on make sure it is supposed to work. Have you had an issues with it not working when it should?

Thanks for making this video Patrick. I'll need to continue to pursue getting my Mach-E fixed as yours seems to work as I would expect. The dealer says my car is OK but I can't use BlueCruise because the car does not lane center properly. It wanders dramatically left and right in the lane so it is not very confidence inspiring for hands free driving. Letting it drive me past a truck as you did many times in your video is reckless in my car. Lane centering / keeping is almost non existent at times. It literally will run off the road flashing yellow the whole time. I experienced this on new pavement with fresh lines. My 2016 CR-V has a more capable lane keeping than my 2022 Mach-E. The caster is a bit strange in that it is within Ford specs but is biased high on the left and low on the right. Camber in the rear is also marginally in spec but biased opposite from the front. Since I no longer trust the dealer, my next step is to pay for a proper alignment and see if that helps. Does anyone know if there is a way to self check the camera alignment? Any suggestions of things to look at would be appreciated.

Great video. I even watch all the commercials! If you ask me, I would trust Blue Cruise far more than I would trust Tesla's system. Keep safe! 😁😁😁😁😁😎

Can Blue Cruise make an unprotected left turn?

Thank you for that decent overview. Certainly way better than manual driving. It feels like it is a lot more "work" and distracting than Tesla AutoPilot that I've used for 100K miles (highway and non-highway roads) in the past few years tho. You'll like the auto-lane change feature as well when it rolls out. I've used that on our Tesla for a few years too and it is nice that it is looking around at computer speed before it does the lane changes ... of course, I'm always checking the mirrors during it doing this to out of human caution.

Are you changing lanes or does the car is doing it when you activate the turn signal? I ask, because if you're the one changing lanes, then this is just adaptive cruise control that is been around for years. Tesla does change lanes by it self and gets off on the off ramps if needed.

It works great just do not use it on a road with roundabouts.

My Hyundai does this… I love how all car makers think their system is more intelligent when they’re all the same as adaptive cruise control. Rebranding it doesn’t mean anything.

Wouldn't want to tow a travel trailer using it.
