Ahem... Well not to brag but I just happen to have 0 caps for England.

I love Roy as a fellow Irishman too he's brilliant.. But Roys perception is always that of an elite sports person, which he was... What he doesn't grasp all the time is, some people's biggest lifetime achievement is that one cap and they couldn't care less that they weren't good enough for anything more, they treasure that and rightly so... But as I said Roy's view is always that of "if it isn't the absolute best then it's not good enough" which is - combined with his talent - is what made him exceptional

I bet players with zero caps, would say I prefer to have one cap.

Roy cracks me up. He's right, though. But every player who's got one cap is now thinking 'cheers Roy'.

Roy always looks at things differently and always backs it up with truths... Love him or hate him you've got to respect him.

Dunno, if you're a striker in the era of Shearer, Ferdinand, Wright, Sheringham etc, I'd be quite happy with one cap.

I sort of get what he means but obviously you’d rather have 1 cap than none

That is kind of true what Roy says, if you get one cap it's pretty lame because it means you were so bad that they never invited you back! However at the same time you can still be proud that you played for England ones... Haha

Big deal. I have the same amount of England caps as Lionel Messi, Pele, and Ronaldo combined.

I remember that time, Ricketts career literally fell of a cliff after that cap, he didnt score the rest of that season and barely scored any goals the rest of his career

- Roy says something
- what?!
- Roy says something else
- huh.. yeah.. you’re right.
Every time.

Ricketts had quite the build up to that friendly vs the Dutch but failed to score in his 45 minutes - and didnt score for Bolton the rest of the season. Maybe Roy is right! 😅

Roy's right. You ARE better off having no caps than just a single cap

Loads of great players with no caps or 1. It's often politics as much as it is ability.

Imagine being Jardel, Elber etc and having to try and oust Romario, R9, Rivaldo etc.

Sometimes there's just too many good players in a generation.

Roy's spot on. Imagine being just good enough for your lower table team. You show enough potential in the England set up and training sessions etc. And after 90 minutes, England kicks you out and slams the door That's brutal. Selection has to be earned obviously .

Steve bruce no caps. Neil ruddock got 1. Does that make razor better central defender?

Roy speaking with experience looking at having to look at these players coming into the International setup.

Must have been a few charlies that O’Niell gave a cap too and Roy wasn’t having them one bit.
