I’m confused as to why Psyduck didn’t get a 5 on Groudon. Its Cloud Nine ability cancels out the Drought.

to me I think Psyduck should be a 5 when it comes to Groudon as the duck has the ability Cloud Nine which let's him ignore the weather thus his water attack's aren't weakened by Groudon's Drought

I played the original back in highschool. Now that this new one came out, I've been getting nostalgic and wanted to get it. I'm planning on starting with Cubone with Totodile as my partner because that's what I did in the original. The game said I'm a lonely person and gave me Cubone. I never noticed Cubone too much before that, but ever since then, it's been special to me. 'Cause the game's reasoning was on point haha Totodile I picked for coverage and because Gold was my original Pokémon game, so I love it more than Squirtle!

Did you forget that Pikachu got grass knot as a starting move? Together with nasty plot (thank you Gulpin!) I was able to SMASH Groudon as Pikachu thanks to Grass Knot being super effective and Groudon being super heavy. Pikachu should've gotten higher than a 1 here for this reason.

Bulbasaur is being slept on with it's access to Sleep Powder! I linked it with an attack, and the bosses never hit me even if they got revived next turn, as Bulba could just use it next turn again. For fun, I tried to solo post-game Rayquaza with it (no crazy stat buffs), and Sleep Powder clutched me through it.

It seems to me you’re just ranking them based on their type rather than their potential movepool. Skitty, for example example, could have thunderbolt or blizzard. But you never mentioned that and just place her as average

I was hoping which would be the best partner for EACH starter in case you ACCEPTED THE RESULTS of the personality quiz.
Mine is a toss up between Brave, Calm and Hardy

Uh, Gulpin's Tutor system isn't available until you beat the game and costs 9000 a pop, so no, Squirtle is not the best. You can only rely on TMs you get from Pokemon Square, so Cubone is by far better because of Lightningrod making Zapdos and Mt. Thunder a joke and, with Rapid Bull's Eye, Bone Rush can pretty much do a ton of damage to Groudon. Just saying.

Something that I think the two of you kind of forgot is that move advantage isn't the only thing to consider. One of the reasons Treeko is my favorite starter is not just because of the main games, but with the original Blue Mystery Dungeon. So do call me biased if you'd like. My point is Treeko has access to not only a Multi Hitting move, but a RANGED move (This being Bullet Seed). Board placement is just as (sometimes even more) important than type-advantage and disadvantage. After all, what's the point of having a super effective move, if you can't hit your target? Most bosses don't have ranged attacks and will have to move towards you to hit. (Thank you Quick Seeds). And if you move just right, you'll be outside of even their ranged attacks. (A major exception would be moves like Groudon's Earthquake, but it's still smart to move out of the way of other Attacks.)

Keeping this in mind, will also greatly effect one's choice in which Pokémon is the Best Starter and Partner.

Totodile and Cubone were my pick. With Ice Fang covering for the grass type weakness plus freezing/flinching and Cubone’s Lightning Rod ability made my team solid.

I find Psyduck to make the best partner, personally. Cloud Nine is a game-changer, no if's, and's, nor but's about it. Not having to deal with weather has that big of an impact. Likewise, it's really not that hard to get a good ice-type TM early in the game (I've gotten two blizzard TM's in two in-game days of starting before), so Gulpin tutoring, while powerful, isn't always so strong (especially since you don't have immediate access to it). Finally, Psychic-type damage is a handy coverage type to have. With all of this, my team is Cubone (me) and Psyduck (partner) all the way.

Eevee i think is very undervalued. Having refresh on it to keep you from ever needing things like heal seeds and combo it with small stomach or pp pouch and it makes a really good support-type mon which is great because the main one usually does most of the damage. And in post game you can evolve it how ever you want - i chose sylveon

Small detail you missed is bulbasaur isnt weak to poison but they're still not incredibly effective against team meanies.

I’m surprised you didn’t mention Ancient Power on Chikorita. That does at least give Chikorita a chance against Moltres and Zapdos. I can’t remember if Articuno and Rayquaza are weak to rock or not.

As for my personal opinion for best partners:
1st: Psyduck; I already said why
2nd: Squirtle;
3rd: Totodile;
4th:Pikachu;


obs: So it seems that bottom 5(but it gets better for the grass starters post-game) are the grass starters+ Machop and Meowth

You forgot that Psyduck has cloud nine so the drought from groudon doesnt effect him so he should have had five stars
