As one of the lucky ones who had Gen 5 as their first game, I don’t want them to ever re make it in real 3D

The “disconnection” is the entire point though. It’s it’s own thing, it’s like playing red and blue again. Pokémon wasn’t familiar in gen 1 either lol

Black and white/b2w2 have always been my favourite even when they were being crapped on. The story was actually amazing, and the games just had so much life

Gen 5 was pretty much my introduction to pokemon so I never felt that disconnect to the other games. Personally I think Black/White and Black/White 2 are the best pokemon games and there was never a downside of that disconnect for me so I never understood the hate.

POKÉMON BLACK AND WHITE IS ARGUABLY ONE OF THE BESTS

Unova was intentionally disconnected from the other regions, since Unova is based off the United States, while the other regions before it were based off Japan. That's probably why the older pokemon were locked behind post-game in the original Black and White. That, and Black and White were supposed to be soft-reboots of the series as well, hence why the Pokemon designs were similar to gen 1's pokemon designs, and why they put around 151 new species.

Unova didn't feel exactly like most pokemon games at the time, but that was for the better. What's ironic though, is that the people who started with the Unova games, including myself, know it as what pokemon is supposed to be, or the peak of pokemon, and want something similar for the newer titles.. which will sadly never come.

Edit: I personally also find the art style of Black and White to be the best in the series. I love the charm that the 3D world gives off compared to all the other games in the series, and how clean the game looks if you run it on an emulator.

I started playing Gen 5 and I was so confused when the newer pokemon games weren't purely new mons and had mixtures of past regions. Damn bro.

the fact gen 5 is getting so much love recently really shows how pokemon hasn’t changed very much since it’s debut

Ngl, N is probably the best written character in the entire franchise

I remember the risks that paid off in gen 5 so well. The story was darker. Ghestis literally tries to KILL you In a Pokemon game

Gen 5 had lots of familiarity, you have the cave with the lake trio, cresselia event, hetran event and the regi chamber in black and white 2 you have a Cynthia post game boss fight, catlyn (a character from platinum) becoming an elite four member, Sabrina from gen 1 becomes an actor at pokestar studios, looker in the post game and the entire PWT in black and white 2

I think one of the reason gen 5 feels so different from the first few gens is that Unova feels very lived in and developed. All of the regions before it felt like they were lived in, but you were going on a unique adventure, finding rare Pokemon and bumping into other travelers along the way. Unova feels like you are going along a path that many other people have gone on before, and are going on with you as you travel. The 3D games also have this, as the routes in the 3D games feel way smaller than the ones in the 2D games. I think GameFreak making Unova feel more developed makes sense and helps the story, but it also makes it harder to believe that there is an ancient ruins with a Volcarona hiding inside of it, when it is right outside of the most populated city in any Pokemon game. (also that there is a boat in the city that takes you to an island with a mythical on it)

Masuda put his heart and soul into this game and the way it backfired makes me very sad in retrospect since it took such a toll on me...appreciate you keeping it real and focusing on some of Gen5's positives - among many others like the tunes and competitive formats

Soooo.... the problem with gen 5 is that it is too well written and actually felt like it was way too good to be a pokemon game?

Makes sense to me
