Republicans dominated the U.S. midterm elections on Tuesday, seizing control of both the House and Senate for the first time since the 2006 elections.

Republicans are on track to hold 31 governor’s seats, gaining three since the last election.

The GOP also tightened its hold on the House, winning 242 seats so far, giving it 24 more votes than the 218 needed for a majority.
