At a time when the younger generation & and older were widely separated, , This classic gave them both something they could share/enjoy together..R.I.P. Bing & David 🙏❤️

So many layers to what happened here. Watching Bing Crosby humbly and generously take a backseat to his guest, young David Bowie, and to see a revolutionary like Bowie respectfully treat a classic song (and Bing Crosby) with such reverence, taught two generations that we really could get along and create some beauty.

We were watching the Bing Crosby Christmas Special at home with all the family when this aired, and we were all surprised and delighted. Thanks for reacting to it. The story goes that David Bowie hated Drummer Boy, so they wrote Peace on Earth in 40 minutes and rehearsed it just before going onstage and performing it.

This was from a Christmas TV special. Bing Crosby had his first hit song in 1928, almost 20 years before David Bowie was born. Both were big stars and well known for their generation. It was amazing collaboration at a time there was a lot of tension, especially in the USA, between generations. This song still brings a tear to my eye, especially watching it. Merry Christmas to you.

As Christmas songs go, this one is fairly new. Yet in its time it has become one of the classics. The arrangement is a masterpiece. I don't think people realize how popular Bing's Christmas Special was. The family all sat around the TV to watch. I'll bet millions saw this when it aired. I was one of 'em.

Bing was THE king of crooners since the 1930s, and Bowie was a complete game changer of his era. Two wildly different genres coming together in an instant landmark collaboration. AWESOME reaction as always! As a sidenote, Bing died just after playing one of his greatest passions; a round of golf.

The story is that Bing had no idea who David Bowie was. As others have said this was written just in time to run through and then go onstage and sing it. You can see both look at the other when changes were coming to keep the song together. True professionals, one in the early height of his career and the other in the twilight of his singing something created in the moment and still remembered as a masterpiece 45 plus years later.

This is my favorite Christmas song.. I watched this Bing Crosby Crosby Christmas special when he came out. There is a story that Bowie didn't like the Little Drummer Boy that's why they incorporated both songs. Love this reaction. Both legends. Bowie was very famous at this time.

I remember the TV advert for this Bing Crosby Christmas special with the announcement of David Bowie as a special guest. As a Bowie fan I had to watch it. I remembered it for years but never had the opportunity to see it again until recent years on the internet.

Jane H …. I grew up listening to Bing on the radio, & then on television from when I was 12 years old, & loved his voice & his movies. Years later, I was a David Bowie fan. Putting the two of them together, was a touch of magic. It worked beautifully, & it was a wonderful way for David to have the pleasure & honour of singing with the great American Bing Crosby, & for Bing to enjoy singing with a contemporary English recording artist. Enjoyed your reaction.

I have to admit, , For as much as I love this, , Being the last surviving member of my family, , I had to force myself to watch/listen as tears rolled down my face.

I remember watching this live as a teenager and it was a huge surprise. I loved Bing from his wonderful musical movies and David was not on my favorite list. This song changed my mind. Its become one of my all time favorite holiday songs.

My beloved late Dad who passed away in 2019 was the spitting image of Bing Crosby, every time I see Bing Crosby I see my Dad who I miss so much. I remember seeing this video I think it was in 1974 but I may be wrong but it definitely was in the 70's. I was born in 1964 th London here in England and I remember watching this on Christmas day on Christmas Top of the Pops ( a weekly music show here on TV in the UK which was very popular), in the Front room with our beloved late Mum and Dad also my little brother with the TV by the Christmas Tree with a coal fire on with the snow outside. At that time I lived in a haunted house that was built in 1632, but I still love the old house which I miss as it so much happy memories. This song brings back very happy memories to me personally and takes me back to my childhood, Thank you so much and I wish the both of you a Happy Christmas and a long and happy life together.

Bing Crosby introduced the world to the song White Christmas in the movie Holiday Inn. It won the Academy Award for best original song. This duet with David Bowie was filmed for Bing Crosby's annual Christmas Special but he had passed away before it aired.

David didn't want to do it; however, his mother was a big Bing Crosby fan and told him he HAD to do it! We're all indebted to David's mom.
