I saw adobe buildings in central Mexico and parts of them were still standing from the 1500s, when those in this area were built. An architect said they are expensive to build now because it requires a lot of labor.

When I would walk into a historical church to get out of the heat, the coolness inside due to the thick adobe walls (a foot thick) was an example of how such a cool oasis could be created.

A small, one room structure built on a farm in Oregon that I visited was built with sawdust insulation and it was shocking how cool that was to walk into. A big difference in temperature between the heat of the exterior and the coolness inside.

Absolutely! And if you build your house in the old hacienda style too with a shaded central courtyard it makes an excellent way to circulate cool air through the home with little need for air conditioning

They are not earthquake resistant, let me tell you that. If they are still standing depends a lot on the area they were built.
