Trad goth? Nu goth? Cybergoth?

What are those? Goths and gothic looks are not just about the subculture and vampires?

Here is my attempt to explain simply the background and the generic looks of the well-known gothic styles. Hope you enjoy exploring gothic fashion history! Gothic aesthetics are not just about being vampire or witchy after all!

Happy Halloween season everyone!

I know gothic clothes are not costumes reserved only for spooky times. But I know that many of you may dress a bit more gothic for this special occasion.

I wish all of you a good time! Even if you are not partying or wearing gothic clothes or Halloween costumes (like me, actually).

Goth is not only music, culture and fashion but also a comunity. When i moved interstate i found a comunity of like minded people though our love for the darker things, such as music, books, fashion, etc. Its truly magical. I wear what i feel comftable in which just happens to be under the unbrella of goth.

Honestly as someone who can range from emo to punk to goth, accessories are EVERYTHING.
You can have a simple shirt and a skirt but if you wear a nice corset or fishnets, a belt, a necklace any little trinkets like earings and rings your whole outfit can change

I wear a lot of white goth and wish you had touched on it more. Many people haven’t even heard of it. Some people call it ghost goth 🙂

There is also Gothabilly. It's like Rockabilly but more dark. 50's classic style with dark tones. Some people stay in one genre and others have closets full of multiple. I myself have victorian, romantic, traditional, gothabilly and corporate. It's nice to understand the differences, but I hate having to be filtered down into a specific title. I just throw myself under the 'goth' umbrella and dress how I feel comfortable for the day or occasion.

Love the vid! I wear Gothic Lolita (alongside Sweet Lolita and other substyles). I would describe our style's colour palette as "monochromatic and jewel tones", as colours like sapphire, ruby, and even emerald appear rather often in what's supposed to be a black-and-white fashion 😂

In terms of what I wish I could wear, it'd probably be Victorian Goth, or a steampunk plague doctor look, but at the same time, I could neither afford it nor bother actually getting dressed if clothes are too complicated/warm. So I'd have to say Corporate Goth for practical reasons, lol.

It's interesting to know about some of the different styles though. I knew most of them, but I didn't realize there was so much difference between Victorian and Romantic Goth! Neat.

i consider myself the opposite of goth (i wear very bright, very colorful decora fashion), BUT a lot of the clothing designs I make in my free time tend to lean more gothic/gothic inspired! now i wanna draw all these kinds of styles :3

I like how you aren't preachy or trying to gatekeep, just explaining different types of goth fashion.
Probably way for me to describe the way I dress is gothic urban fantasy. Another way, come to think of it, is whimsical mock vintage with a lot of black and other dark colors.

This was a really nice summary! I don't know how I stumbled upon it but I love it! It does bring back memories, too. When I was a teen, I identified as a cybergoth (we just called it industrial) Some bands I'd like to recommend is Grendel (the most obvious one), Celldweller. Mindless Self Indulgence has gained popularity somehow lately??? They would also fit, as well as Econoline Crush IMHO (but could also be considered romantic) - One of my personal favourites would be Angelspit - 100%

Thank you SO much for this video and reminding me of all these bands that I have actually not listened to in a while! I will now proceed to get the new Angelspit Album.

Gosh, it's been 15 years since the first time I discovered the different subtypes of goth fashion. You've touched on all of them beautifully 💗 and now I'm feeling a little nostalgic for my goth teen days~

I used to be a nu-goth/cybergoth back in the day and as far as cybergoth music goes, we were pretty big into genres like dark electro, EBM, aggrotech, power noise, futurepop and other forms of post-industrial. Stuff like :wumpscut:, Laibach, Psyclon Nine, VNV Nation, Skinny Puppy, Front Line Assembly, Combichrist and Suicide Commando found their way around our culture.

This vid was an excellent summary of the gothic styles and communities :D
As someone who is in the cybergoth world, I’ve noticed that a lot of it also blends with industrial style as well, especially industrial dance.
The genres of music are Cybergoth, Industrial, and Aggrotech
My favorite bands are Synapsyche, T-error machinez, suicide commando, icon of coil, and aesthetic perfection.

Omg your artstyle is so cool and neat. I'm so happy to see a well-made video about the goth culture from time to time.

As Gothic lolita and goth aesthetic fan, I was so happy to find this video. I don't wear Gothic everyday but if I could I would be something like a "casual goth", if it's even possible, Goth but with everyday close.

I don’t dress goth all the time, but most of the time when I do I dress either romantically or in NuGoth for work. Great video! 🥰

Being a visual kei fan (a sub-genre of Japanese rock and fashion/subculture) the minute I heard Gothic Lolita, I thought of Mana-sama and Moi Dix Mois (his band). It was cool to see this brought up.
